Black-tie Polo Ball Rocks the House as the Social Season

Ends on a High Note at International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, FL – Almost 400 guests attended the most spectacular, fun-filled event of the equestrian season, the annual black-tie Polo Ball, at International Polo Club Palm Beach, starting early and staying late.

Chairmen were Catamount patron Scott Devon and his wife, Teri, who dazzled the guests with her beautiful gown. Television personality Star Jones Reynolds of ABC’s “The View” attended the event, accompanied by her good friend, Jaci Reid.

The evening began with a poolside cocktail reception as guests enjoyed tropical drinks and nibbled on delicious passed hors d’oeuvres.

A who’s who of the polo world attended the event, including International Polo Club Palm Beach owner John Goodman, 10-goalers Mike Azzaro and Carlos Gracida, 9-goaler Pancho Bensadon, C Spear patron Tommy Boyle, Pony Express patrons Bob and Anja Eckbo Daniels, Hall of Famer Red Armour, 8-goaler Jeff Hall, 6-goaler Martin Ravina, Ruben Gracida, Tony Coppola, United States Polo Association (USPA) Executive Director Peter Rizzo, IPC General Manager Michael Brown, USPA Chairman Jack Shelton, as well as Angelo Kleronomos, Jim Whisenand, Tony DiPaula and Frank McNamara.

Renowned special events planner and restaurateur Barton G. transformed the Grand Marquee into a visual wonderland, with extravagant decorations such as gold lame ceiling and wall treatments, and centerpieces made of a three-tier candelabra with hydrangeas, roses and orchids accompanied by assorted candles.

The band Euphoria rocked the house and entertainment included dancers from La Mystique, whose constantly changing costumes almost always included gold.

Dinner began with a dancing shrimp tower on mixed field greens with local tomatoes and basil-scented cucumber served with toasted cumin vinaigrette. The main entrée was honey soy braised beef tenderloin and ginger glazed salmon, buckwheat noodle custard with seared asparagus and carrots. But it was the dessert – a gold-dusted polo ball – that kept the guests talking. A coconut flavored cake shaped into a polo ball, topped with whipped cream and gold dusted coconut, served with chocolate mallet and red fruit coulis wowed even the most discriminating taste buds.
