Blue Allen Wins Limited Open Bridle Championship and Reserve Championship

Blue Allen became the man of the hour in the Limited Open Bridle at the National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship Show, presented by John Deere. Allen qualified three horses for the finals, and earned the Championship on Chics Peppy Pistol, the Reserve Championship on Double R Wright Way, and finished fourth on Whiskey Starlight.

With Chics Peppy Pistol, nicknamed Pistol, the Alamosa, Colorado, trainer marked a score of 217.5 in the rein work and 220.5 in the cow work for a 438 total. “He felt great in the rein work. In the cow work, we had a really good cow, and he just worked.” Allen added, “This is a great horse with a heart that never stops. He never gives up.”

The World Championship wasn’t the only title won on Friday, February 8. Allen and Pistol also won the Limited Open Bridle National Championship.

Allen began showing reined cow horses six years ago, and says he got started because he wanted to be a better horseman. “I grew up riding and roping. A friend’s father showed some Snaffle Bit Futurity horses, and they got me into it. I like it now,” he said.

The win gave Chics Peppy Pistol, by Smart Chic Olena and out of Ms Silverita, owned by John Rosenbaum, a $3,759 boost in lifetime earnings. Along with the lucrative paycheck, Rosenbaum received a Bob’s Custom Saddle from Jackson Land and Cattle, a Gist custom buckle sponsored by Knight Haulers, a pair of stock boots from Rios of Mercedes, a commemorative World Championship vest from Gist Silversmiths, a CR Morrison trophy and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion.

Riding Double R Wright Way, by Dual Peppy and out of Double R Cody, for Susan Lyle, Allen earned a 434 total and a check for $3,088. The prizes for the Reserve World Championship included a Gist custom buckle from Knight Haulers, a set of custom spurs from Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, a pair of Rios of Mercedes stock boots, an ESP saddle pad from Classic Equine, a commemorative World Championship vest from Gist Silversmiths, and a CR Morrison commemorative medallion.

The NRCHA World Championship Show, presented by John Deere, is held at the 1st Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena in San Angelo, Texas, as part of the Fort Dodge Animal Health NRCHA Celebration of Champions. The event, which runs through February 8, begins daily at 8am, with the exception of Sunday, February 8, when it will begin at 10am.
