Brent Wright and Miss Rey O Shine Win NRBC Open Preliminaries

The 11th Annual National Reining Breeders Classic Open Finalists were decided Thursday evening after two days of exciting preliminary competition at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. As each successive horse entered the arena, it was clear that it was one of the toughest preliminaries the event has ever had.

Draw 47 Miss Rey O Shine and Brent Wright marked an impressive 227 to win the preliminary competition. While simply making the finals guarantees at least a $5,000 check, winning the go-round garnered Wright and Miss Rey O Shine a check for $18,097, awarded during the Bridle & Bit Open Draw Party on April 17.

Miss Rey O Shine, owned by Gloria Bahn of Wildwood, Missouri, is by Shining Spark and out of Miss Rey O Lena.

Winning second in the NRBC Open preliminaries with a 226.5 was RC Fancy Step ridden by Shawn Flarida. By Wimpys Little Step and out of Sonita Wilson, RC Fancy Step is owned by Jimmy Pierce and Mark Schols.

First place in the Intermediate Open prelims paid $4,354 and Robin Schoeller earned that paycheck on KR Lil Conquistador, by Conquistador Whiz and out of Smart Little Prize. KR Lil Conquistador is owned by Cheree Kirkbride.

Sebastian Petroll marked a 220 on Dun It In The Bay, earning $1,711 for winning the Limited Open first go-round. Dun It In The Bay, owned by Tom and Mandy McCutcheon, is by Starlights Wrangler and out of Cee Dun It Do It.

Immediately after the Open preliminaries, contestants, owners, sponsors and friends made their way to the Open Draw Party sponsored by Bridle & Bit magazine. Guests enjoyed heavy appetizers and good drinks, and also took the time to browse the silent auction benefiting the Rein In Cancer campaign.

The Intermediate and Limited Open riders drew first, and before the Open draw, the Open Classic Calcutta caused a lot of excitement. Nearly $14,000 was earned, with 10% slated to go to Rein In Cancer.

The Open Classic finals will be held Saturday, April 19. The Open Champion will win many prizes including a check for $75,000! Even more exciting for many is the news that 33rd place in the Open Finals will earn $5,000!

The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just 11 years, the NRBC has grown to include almost 300 subscribed stallions and over 20,000 enrolled foals.
