Found! BREYER® Announces First Winner in Stock Horse Treasure Hunt!

(Pequannock, NJ – Feb. 13, 2006) – The first winner in Breyer® Animal Creations®' Stock Horse Treasure Hunt has been announced! Karen Hoagland, 40, of Pennsylvania will be the first to receive a Breyer Collector's Edition Bonus Model. The Stock Horse Treasure Hunt, a 2006 Breyer collector event, has collectors and Breyer enthusiasts searching high and low for four coveted stock horse models. Once all four are found, they receive the free Collector's Edition Bonus model, a Wedgewood Blue Lady Phase, a model from 1976 that was a portrait model of Lynn Anderson's horse, Lady Phase.
Karen's winning horses came from Lee’s Saddlery in Kutztown, Pa. She was able to collect all four in record time and add them to her collection of 2,000+ models! Karen is a generous collector who loves to share her knowledge and passion for collecting. She is well-known for bringing her rare models to model horse shows to share with other enthusiasts.
As a child, Karen had her own collection of model horses, but when she graduated from high school she sold all but 12. Her husband got her back into collecting five years later when some models caught his eye at a flea market and he brought them home for her. After that, she was off and running: the remaining 12 models came down from the attic and went up on a shelf, soon to be joined by hundreds more.
Like many collectors, Karen works full-time and is mother to two active boys, aged 8 and 12, both of whom have their own Breyer collections. Her youngest son collects animals and wildlife and her oldest son won the Design-a-Scepter contest in his age division at last year’s BreyerFest! Karen also seems to collect real animals, many of them rescued from abusive conditions. In addition to her family of four, she also has a 9-year-old Appaloosa gelding, a wolf, five dogs (one named Breyer!), and a pet skunk!
Somehow, Karen also finds the time to show her models and go to yard sales to look for “vintage Breyer treasure.” She says, “I am so happy that my Treasure Hunt was a success!"
