Caitie Hope Prevails for Second Place in USHJA Hunterdon Equitation Cup

Lyle Jumps for Overall Small Junior Hunter Reserve Championship

Saugerties, NY- August 6, 2008 - Caitie Hope wrapped up another incredible competition this week at the USEF Junior Hunter National Championship in Saugerties, NY. Hope, who has been on a winning streak this year in the equitation, hunter, and jumper rings, continued her reign of success in the show ring aboard her two mounts, Carmachone and Lyle. The 16-year-old rider trains with Diane Carney at Telluride Farm in Hampshire, IL.

Aboard Carmachone, Hope rode beautifully in the USHJA Hunterdon Equitation Cup, a three round competition named after the farm of renowned horseman George H. Morris.

"Junior Hunter Finals were amazing," commented Carney. "In the Hunterdon Cup, Caitie had a great first round and a high score. The top ten came back for the second round, and she rode just as well over that course. She was ranked in fourth overall before the final round, which required the top six riders to trade horses. She came back on a horse named Cavalier Forever and was just brilliant. For her to finish in second place, it's just such a huge victory for her," stated Carney.

"All of the best junior riders were in the class, and there was some tough competition," she continued. "The course was challenging; it really reflected George Morris' temperament. The jumps were built according to his standards and the lines were technical enough."

In addition to her second place ribbon, Hope also earned fourth place aboard Carmachone in the ASPCA Maclay on Monday. The young rider then switched into junior hunter mode and competed with Lyle in the Small Junior 16-17 Hunter division. Lyle, who is owned by Stephanie Keen, jumped incredibly well over fences and took home third place in the handy hunter class. He and Hope returned to the show ring for the junior hunter stake and executed a stunning round, resulting in second place. Their consistent rides secured them the overall Small Junior Hunter Reserve Championship ribbon.

"What a cool horse!" Carney exclaimed. "Lyle was just on, on, on. He was really good in the handy hunter class, and he received a high score today as well. He was just brilliant. There were tough conditions today," she revealed. "We got lots of rain last night, and the course was really tough. Lyle is such a great competitor. He always jumps beautifully," she noted. "I think he's one of the most special junior hunters I know, and we are really grateful for the opportunity to ride him. Thank you Don Stewart and Stephanie!"

Diane Carney and her students will attend Equifest II this weekend at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL. Hope will compete in the grand prix with her jumper, La Paz, and she will also show her large junior hunter Caped Crusader, owned by Missy Clark and North Run.

Carney has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d'Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr.
