Kentucky Spring Horse Show Paves a Road to Glory for Carol Cone
Equestrian News Release
Lexington, KY- May 12, 2006 – The Adult Amateur 50 and Older Hunters concluded today at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show inside the Indoor Arena. After competing in the Murphy Ring yesterday, competitors were excited and nervous to ride inside, and the under saddle class was held before the over fences classes to ease their nerves.
Carol Cone and Glory Road of Weton, MA, remained consistently strong today after first and second placings over fences yesterday. The pair earned first place in the under saddle and another first place over fences, sealing the overall division championship for Cone.
“Glory Road is a new horse for me,” reported Cone. “I got him a couple weeks before the Winter Equestrian Festival, and I’ve never ridden him indoors. So, the first course I was a little slow, and I was a bit gappy to the first fence. In the second class, I knew I had to go in there and hit a lick, and we won it.” She exclaimed, “He’s a blast. He’s really, really fun and is a beautiful mover. He won this under saddle and the Pre-Green hack here and is also the reserve champion for the Pre-Green Hunters. He is just so much fun!”
“He has the best personality,” she added. “He’s adorable. Whenever I walk into the barn, he whinnies and wants his treats. He’s out of the Rio line, the same line as Rio Renoir and Eye Remember Rio. I picked out his name before I got the horse. I named him after a movie that is about a basketball team that goes through trials and tribulations before they win.”
The reserve champion of the Adult Amateur 50 and Older division was awarded to Peggy O’Meara of Kent, WA, and Final Entry. Final Entry, owned by Woodland Way, took home two first places over fences and a third place under saddle.
Hunters continue tomorrow with the final classes for the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunters, the Adult Amateur 36-49 Hunters, and the Junior Hunters. In the Junior Hunters today, both over fences classes in the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters were won by Katherine Newman aboard Corvet Z. Newman rides for Allwyn Court Farm and trains with her parents, Kathy and Gerry Newman. She also won the WIHS Equitation Hunter Phase on Timeless, owned by Mimi Abel-Smith. Other early leaders include, Trust Me and Shannon Kelly of Woodbridge, Illinois, who picked up top ribbons in the Large Junior Hunters 16 & 17, and A Thousand Words with Denise Wilson out of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, who had high placings in the Small Junior Hunters 16 & 17.
