Carter Metcalf Wins 2007 NRCHA Novice Non Pro Bridle World Championship

Making the National Reined Cow Horse Association World Championship Show finals one time in a year is good, and twice is quite impressive. However, 18-year-old Carter Metcalf qualified for the finals in three different classes on the same horse, and has already captured the Novice Non Pro Bridle World Championship during the action at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Fort Dodge Animal Health Celebration of Champions in Stephenville, Texas.

His partner for the World Show is Harleys My Chic, a 10-year-old mare by Smart Chic Olena mare and out of Scooter Tari. Their 430.5 (216/214.5) outscored the rest of the class by 8 points, and earned a check for $3,933.

“It felt really good. Yesterday, I didn’t do as well as I should have in the prelims. I wasn’t thinking,” Metcalf admitted. “So today, I had a lot of stuff to think about, and we did good. Now I’m just going to let her breathe until the Youth Bridle finals.”

This isn’t Metcalf’s first NRCHA World Championship – he also won the 2004 Youth Bridle Championship on Mr Mini Macho.

Metcalf, from Pilot Point, Texas, will graduate from high school in May, and plans to work as a horse trainer when he graduates.

Toby May earned the Novice Non Pro Bridle Reserve Championship on Hotter N Heck with a 422.5 (212.5/210). May, of Krum, Texas, pocketed $3,078 for the Reserve title. Hotter N Heck is by The Hot Express and out of Super Lizzie.

Earning the Novice Non Pro Bridle NRCHA National Championship was Todd Pershing and Jaci Bee Great. Jaci Bee Great is by Jac Daniels Neat and out of Wranglers Pretty Gal. They finished fourth in the World Championship finals
