Casey Deary Wins NRBC Open First Round on Gunners Indian

When the first round of the Open division of the National Reining Breeders Classic concluded on Thursday afternoon, Casey Deary maintained his lead with a 226.5 on Gunners Indian (Gunner X Cowgirl In The Sand). That win earned $17, 328 for owners Angelo and Jan Berrettini, from Anthony, Florida and the special oversized check was presented during the Bridle & Bit Open Draw Party Thursday night.

. The night was full of fun, with the announcement of 32 finalists in the Open, with a 221.5 needed to make the finals where the champion will earn $75,000. In the Intermediate Open Finals, the bubble was at 218.5, with a 211 needed to get a finals berth in the Limited Open.

In the Intermediate first round, there was tie for the top slot between Casey Hinton on Smarty Starlight, a horse Hinton owns with Joe Verser and Ruben Vandorp on former NRBC Champion Einsteins Revolution owned by Wagner and Vandorp. They earned $3320 each.

In the Limited Open, Alessandro Frassa, who works for Todd Bergen, rode Kick It In The Bud ( Nic It In The Bud X Peppys Little Orphan), owned by Missy Bergen and Eleuterio Arcese, to a round-high score of 220, good for a payoff of $1,626.. That also earned a finals berth in the Intermediate Open. Just a point behind was Douglas Allen on Rosanne Sternberg’s Chic In the Bar (Smart Chic Olena X Solanos Baretta).

Thursday evening, the Bridle & Bit Open Draw Party was held upstairs in the Coliseum at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center for a night of fun and relaxation. Finalists attended the fabulous crystal-themed party and choose engraved wine glasses to find their finals draw position. Plus a Calcutta was held and a substantial amount of money was raised to benefit the NRBC Youth Scholarship Fund.

On Friday, the Non Pro Intermediate and Limited Finals will begin at 10 am, followed by the Non Pro Finals at 2 pm, and the $25,000 Open/USEF competition at 5:30 pm.

The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just ten years, the NRBC has grown to include over 300 subscribed stallions and over 18,000 enrolled foals.
