(AUGUSTA, Ga.) The "Extreme Cowboy Race" premiers a whole new race
Monday, Sept. 4, on RFD-TV!
The new season, "Extreme Cowboy Race #3" hosted by Craig Cameron, is not
what viewers have come to expect in the first two races. Built from a
barren parking lot at the CalExpo Center in Sacramento, Calif., the
course for this race is wild, physical, and most importantly, extreme.
Held during the 2006 Western States Horse Expo, "Extreme Cowboy Race
#3" was the result of months of planning and preparation. Not only did
the course have to be designed from the ground up but all the competitor
entries had to be sorted, reviewed and approved. The competitors, who
came from all over the country, ranged in age from 18 to 65. But age
was never a factor as each of the 34 contestants worked his or her way
through the course during the three-day event.
"The competition keeps getting better every time," said Ryan Dohrn,
HorseCity.com general manager. "After the first two seasons, we were
contacted by viewers and fans all over the country who wanted a chance
to compete in the next race. So, we decided to leave Craig's ranch,
head west and give them a chance to cowboy up. The course had the same
concept as the one located in Bluff Dale, even though it was built from
the ground up. Having a live audience allowed us to add an element to
this race that is next to impossible at the Double Horn Ranch."
"I was thrilled with the Extreme Cowboy Race at the Western States Horse
Expo this year," Miki Cohen, Expo president and founder, explained. "Our
audience went nuts over the race; it was fun and dynamic for people to
watch, and challenging for the contenders. I was also impressed with the
emphasis on good horsemanship in the judging criteria. It's the first
time we've included this kind of competition at the Expo, and it turned
out to be a real crowd pleaser."
The "Extreme Cowboy Race" is a timed race with obstacles designed to not
only push horse and rider out of their traditional comfort zone, but
also test the communication and horsemanship of each team. The
obstacles were created similar to the ones at Craig Cameron's ranch such
as the log pull and various jumps. Some of the new elements included
herding cattle, backing within a defined pattern, and a water obstacle
that made crossing a river look easy.
Judges award points based on a set of five criteria: 1. Horsemanship, 2.
Cadence, 3. Control, 4. Horse's attitude, and 5. Overall execution.
Each day competitors competed for one of the prized 'Top Five' positions
to advance to the finals. The top1 0 competitors plus one wild card
competed in an all-out race to the finish and earn the title of "Extreme
Cowboy."
The "Extreme Cowboy Race" spans 15, 30-minute episodes with each episode
featuring horse-and-rider teams as they complete the course. The new
season will begin Monday Sept. 4 on RFD-TV with new episodes premiering
each week. Each episode will also be available on HorseCity.com to view
by those who do not get RFD-TV. Also, like the first two seasons, the
"Extreme Cowboy Race #3" will be podcast through iTunes and
HorseCity.com.
