Daniel Geitner Has Jumbo Success at Pennsylvania National

Harrisburg, Pa—Oct. 20, 2008— It was nothing short of a momentous week for the Aiken, SC.-based DFG Stables, as top rider Daniel Geitner faced off against the best jumper competitors from across the nation at the 2008 Pennsylvania National Horse Show, one of the most prestigious and celebrated equine events in the United States.

Geitner teamed with Ann Ritter’s 10-year-old bay gelding Jumbo Jet to tackle nearly 40 opponents in the Idle Dice Speed Challenge. Among those were veterans Anne Kursinski, Chris Kappler, Olympic Gold Medalists Beezie Madden and McLain Ward. He ended the class with a stellar 4th place finish, proving beyond a shadow of doubt Geitner can hold his own among the best of the best. The name of the strategy here was pure and simple- speed. While going clean is always ideal, in this particular class faster is better, any rails down would be converted to dreaded time penalties.

“He performed beautifully.” said an exuberant Geitner of his partner after collecting the ribbon in Tuesday’s presentation. While the win went to Beezie Madden, 2nd to Margie Engle, and 3rd to Laura Chapot, Geitner smiled as broadly as the victor saying, “Certainly not shabby company to be in.” When asked about the course and the challenges it presented, Geitner was thoughtful. “I’d say this course was really good for him. Somewhat difficult because the ring has a little less space, so he’s more cautious. He thinks more," he added of the Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg “It’s a great experience to compete at Indoors.”

And facing 38 competitors—most of whom are considered the world’s elite riders according to the USEF rankings—didn’t really daunt the small town guy. “I was just trying to do the best I could with Jumbo Jet,” he said. Posting a final time not far below the winner, it might be wise to watch out as the ever modest Geitner will be a force to reckon with soon.

For Geitner the 2008 Pennsylvania National also had a bittersweet side. “This was one of the few times I’ve not brought hunters,” noted the rider, who’s highly sought out by owners across the hunter community. “Although,” he laughed, “I did have a blast here with the jumpers!”

Daniel and the riders of DFG- hunters and jumpers alike, will next show at the Atlanta Falls Classics in Conyers, GA. Beginning November 5th.
