David Beisel and Patoile Claim the Final $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix at HITS Ocala

OCALA, FL (March 14, 2008)óWith the season coming to a close, David Beisel and his mount Patoile took advantage of the final $25,000 Ariat Grand Prix of the circuit at HITS Post Time Farm in Ocala, Florida and posted the fastest double-clear effort on builder Florencio Hernandez's route.

With the triumph, Beisel added his name to this year's list of Grand Prix winners in Ocala, a list dominated by Tracy Fenney and Tracy Magness, who have won six of the nine Grand Prix classes during this year's rated circuit.

Beisel and his ride outlasted a field of 41 other starters in the first round and five pairs in the jump-off to win $7,500 in first-place prize money for Harlow Investment Enterprise, Inc. "It was a perfect course for a Thursday Grand Prix," said Beisel. "Six went clear in the first round and there were also a few with time faults, so I think Florencio got exactly what he wanted out of it."

Starting the jump-off were Canadian Roberto Teran and his mount Double Diamond. The pair went clear and set the Great American Time to Beat at 43.106. Teran would eventually have to settle for third place for Kings Ridge Stables.

Tracy Fenney entered the ring next aboard MTM Centano. Fenney has been the one to beat this year with $86,000 in Grand Prix prize money won during the 2008 HITS Ocala Winter Circuit. But this time around, two rails down would earn her a fifth-place finish for MTM Farm.

Despite a clear effort in the first round aboard her second mount Grace, Fenney chose not to ride Grace in the jump-off in order to save her mount for Sunday's $100,000 DeLuca Toyota Tundra Grand Prix, presented by Great American Insurance Group. She was also 12th aboard S & L Willie, bringing her total winnings to $88,750.

Third in the jump-off order were Mary Lisa Leffler and her mount Gerona 92. Leffler had one rail down and secured fourth place for Rolling Acres Farm, Inc.

Teran was back for his second trip of the jump-off aboard Distant Star 3E. The pair went clear in 42.343 to move into the lead. After all was said and done, Teran and Distant Star 3E would end the day in second place. In all, Teran collected $8,850 for Kings Ridge Stables.

The only pair left in the schooling ring were Beisel and Patoile. They entered the ring and stopped the clocks in 42.034 to capture the class. "I obviously had the advantage going last. Roberto had two very fast times in front of me so I knew it wasn't going to be easy," said Beisel. "My horse went really well in the jump-off and winning the Ariat class provided us with a nice tune-up for Sunday's big class,"

With the victory, Beisel earned some valuable points for the USGPL standings. This means that he increased his chances of being on the list of the 30 riders who will be invited to participate in the $100,000 USGPL Invitational Grand Prix at HITS Culpeper in late September. The top 30 riders in the Marshall & Sterling League National Standings (based on money won by the horse/rider combination) will qualify to participate in the Invitational. In addition, one Wild Card slot will be allotted. The rider may elect to ride any horse of his or her choice, but may ride only one horse in the Invitational.

Show jumping at HITS Ocala continues all weekend and will feature the $100,000 DeLuca Toyota Tundra Grand Prix, presented by Great American Insurance Group on Sunday, March 16.

During Sunday's featured event, the Stallion Services Department of the Equine Medical Center of Ocala, Florida will offer the Leading Mare Award to the mare that finishes the highest in the Grand Prix. The award consists of a free embryo transfer, which will be performed by Dr. Corey Miller, head of reproduction at the Ocala-based veterinary hospital.

Friday night the Florida Equitation Championship will take place in the Grand Prix ring. Also on Friday night, exhibitors will be treated to an old-fashion pig roast and country barbecue thanks to HITS Ocala's Official Show Veterinarian Team Barber. Then on Saturday night, the $10,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby Classic will take place under the lights in the Main Hunter ring.

Also on the agenda for Sunday is the presentation of the Antares Sellier France Overall Circuit Awards and Ocala Style Magazine will present the Ocala Style of Riding Award. Plus, the $25,000 M&S Child/Adult Jumper Classic, $15,000 Jr/A-O Jumper Low Classic and $25,000 Team Barber Jr/A-O Jumper High Classic all help to make the HITS Ocala Winter Finals a special week of show jumping.
