Deb Balliet named CEO of Equestrian Land Conservation Resource

The Equestrian Land Conservation Resource, (ELCR) now located in the National Horse Center at the Kentucky Horse Park, is pleased to announce that Deb Balliet has been named Chief Executive Officer.

Deb brings a passion for both horses and open space to her new position at ELCR. A recreational rider, Deb trail rides and is a member of the Eastern Mountain Ranch Horse Association. Professionally, Deb has 23 years of experience in not-for-profit management, consulting and fund-raising with organizations such as

The University of Vermont, Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Open Space Preservation Trust, and National Audubon Society.

Deb holds an M.Ed. in educational administration from the University of Vermont and a B.A. in Communication Studies from the State University of New York @ Oswego. Deb is a member of the Board of Directors of the Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program and is an Advisory Board member of The Equus Projects: Dancing with Horses.

ELCR is the only national organization working to advance the conservation of land for horse related activities. Economic, cultural, demographic and political forces have converted 13 million acres of rural land into subdivisions, malls, roads, parking lots and office space since 2000. The impending loss of open land has reached crisis proportions for horse owners who need land to ride, grow hay and grain and pasture their animals. ELCR is the resource for horse people, towns, land trusts and elected officials nationwide on such topics as getting organized, securing conservation easements that are friendly to horses and environmental issues related to horses and land.
