Debbie Crawford Posts High Score in Non Pro Limited Preliminaries

Debbie Crawford, of Goldthwaite, Texas, rode former National Reining Horse Association Non Pro Futurity Champion Fridays Gold Eclipse to the top score of the Non Pro Limited preliminaries during the National Reined Cow Horse Association Fort Dodge Celebration of Champions on Thursday, February 21.

Debbie and the 10-year-old palomino stallion earned a 432 total, comprised of a 218 in the rein work, and 214 in the boxing. Fridays Gold Eclipse is by Steady Tradition and out of Bar Good Friday. “’Friday is full of energy, and has a kind heart,” noted Crawford. “He is also very athletic, as evidenced by his show record. He can stop, turn, and has speed to spare.”

“Friday” is also a former National Reining Horse Association Non Pro Futurity and Non Pro Derby Champion with over $70,000 in earnings. Crawford and Fridays Gold Eclipse ended the year in sixth place in the NRCHA Southern Central regional standings.

Coming in second was Jessie Beecham and Annie San Okee, who marked a 211.5 and 219 in the rein and cow work, respectively. Their total score of 430.5 secured a top spot in the Non Pro Limited finals. Annie San Okee is by Colonel O Freckles and out of Peppys Sugar Soda.

The NRCHA Youth members finally got a chance to compete, and the fourteen riders vied to be one of the top ten that advance to the finals. Korry Bailey, of Sparta, Texas, rode Sparking Champ, by Shining Spark and out of Be Betsy Champ. She marked 216 and 220.5 in the rein and cow work, respectively for a 436.5 total. Korry explained that she and her horse are winners, because “our personalities match.”

The 17-year-old, who works as a physical therapist technician, explained that her father, Paul Bailey, and stepmother, Amy, have always been there for her, and she really appreciates them. She also wanted to recognize everyone at Metcalf Quarter Horses for their support.

Bailey plans to finish her youth years with “Sparky.” After she is done with him, she hopes the talented palomino gelding and her younger brother Caleb, can begin showing.

Second in the youth preliminaries went to Becca Haaland and Smart Little Coach, a 10-year-old gelding by Little Dors Lena, and out of Misty Lee Okie. They earned a 431.5 composite, consisting of a 212.5 in the rein work, and 219 down the fence.
