Deeridge Farm Captures Three Championships at 123rd National Horse Show

Wellington, FL – December 5, 2006 – It was a successful week and a worthwhile trip down to Florida for Deeridge Farm and the Jacobs family. They competed at the 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival on November 29-December 3, 2006, and brought home three division championships and multiple ribbons.

Louis Jacobs, of East Aurora, NY, rode Kachina to the Amateur-Owner Jumper championship. He and the eight year old Selle Francais mare won the opening speed class on Friday, were third on Saturday, and finished second in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame (SJHOF) Series Final on Sunday. While the Jacobs family has attended the National Horse Show for many years, this was Louis’ first division championship.

Louis and Kachina have been partnered for 18 months and have garnered a Winter Equestrian Festival circuit championship and tricolors at Lake Placid and HITS-on-the-Hudson horse shows. “She’s been a real nice, consistent girl,” Louis remarked. The 18 hand high Kachina was not Louis’ normal type of horse, but she has proven herself to be a worthy competitor. “She’s something very different for me, but she keeps going better and better. She’s a real sweetheart in the barn too,” he mentioned.

Louis had tough competition in the jumpers from his younger brother, Charlie. Charlie Jacobs piloted Pia to fourth in the Amateur-Owner Jumper Welcome Stake, first in the speed class on Saturday, and fourth in the SJHOF Finals.

Jacobs and the nine year old Dutch Warmblood mare have been together for almost two years. Jacobs purchased Pia from John and Beezie Madden and found that they clicked right away. “She’s been wonderful,” he said. “I showed her last year down here, and she won a good fair share of classes. She had a very good summer, and I laid her up for about three months before coming down here so she was fresh and ready to go.”

Both Louis and Charlie do not mind competing against or beating each other. “I’ve been doing it my whole life, and it’s a blast,” Charlie said with a smile. “We have a big time sibling rivalry, but of course we very much root for each other. As long as Deeridge is at the top of the standings, it’s great.” Louis added, “At the end of the final class, we were both still in there for the jump-off and the awards presentation. It was neat to both still be in there playing.”

Moving from the jumper arena and the hunter ring, Charlie and Louis’ sister, Katie Robinson, won the championship in the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunters with Pienvotti, also known as “Flavia” in the barn.

Robinson has owned Pienvotti for only four months. “She’s still pretty new to us,” Robinson acknowledged. “She’s a sweet, fun horse. I’m just so happy that she did so well, and it’s nice that other people like her too!”

Robinson and Pienvotti jumped to two first place ribbons and were second in the hack. On her other horse Blush, Robinson picked up another first and second place. Because of their success, Pienvotti and Robinson were named the Grand Amateur-Owner Hunter Champions.

The Jacobs’ niece, Melissa, brought one more championship ribbon home after this weekend. She and Jouet won the tricolor in the Children’s Hunter division. They were second in both classes on Saturday and finished second in the stake class on Sunday.

Louis and Joan Jacobs’ daughter, Charlotte, also competed in the Large Pony Hunters on Hillcrest Pennywise and picked up top ribbons.

Deeridge Farm and the Jacobs and Robinson families will compete next at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, starting on January 24, 2007.
