Deeridge Farms Garners Huge Wins at Third Week of Vermont Summer Festival

Kachina and Lou Jacobs Win $10,000 Hickey-Freeman/Bobby Jones Open Jumper Welcome Stake

East Dorset, VT - July 31, 2007 - This past week was very successful for Deeridge Farms of East Aurora, NY, at the third installment of the 2007 Vermont Summer Festival. They won three major jumper classics and took home three tricolor ribbons.

Lou Jacobs and Kachina were once again a threat in the open jumper division. They were victorious in the $10,000 Hickey-Freeman/Bobby Jones Open Jumper Welcome Stake after they were one of only two double clear rounds. In this past Sunday's $30,000 Otter Creek Grand Prix, Lou and Kachina were one of four that advanced to the jump-off and finished in fourth place. One of the other riders in the grand prix jump-off was Lou's brother Charlie, who rode Pia to third place and Midnight Lady to seventh place.

Kachina is a nine-year-old Selle Francais mare that is 18 hands in height. "She's every bit of 18 hands, so she's a real big girl with a real big step," Jacobs said on Friday. "Sometimes when the course gets too handy and there is a lot of turning, it's a challenge for her. She seemed to rise to the occasion today."

After his fourth-place finish in last week's grand prix, Jacobs was determined to go for the win in the Welcome Stake this week. "I wish I'd gone for it a little bit more, so I was a bit more determined today to make the most of the moment," he remarked.

Lou's wife Joan had a fantastic week of showing on her two highly competitive mounts. Joan won the NAL/WIHS Adult Jumper Classic on Boyke and finished third in the class on Go West. Just the next day, Joan won the Marshall & Sterling Adult Jumper Classic on Go West. Her two horses tied for the championship in the High Adult Jumper division.

Melissa Jacobs was a top young rider at the Vermont Summer Festival. She and Jouet won the $500 NAL/WIHS Children's Hunter Classic and were reserve champions in the Children's 13 & Under Hunters after they finished with two second and two third place ribbons. On Missy Clark's Comeback, she finished second in the Equitation 12-14 and the NEHC Junior Medal class.

Kimberly Jacobs and Oxbow, owned by Anderson Jones, won the championship in the Adult Amateur 36-45 Equitation division. They picked up two second places and a fourth to garner the tricolor.

Deeridge Farms will compete next at the USEF Pony Finals on August 15-19, where Charlotte Jacobs and Phoebe and Grace Robinson will compete at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
