DFG Stables Triumphant at Atlanta Spring Premiere

Conyers, GA May 11, 2009—Team DFG lead by head trainer-owner Daniel Geitner arrived the Atlanta Spring Premiere fresh off two victorious weeks defending their home turf and in high spirits. The Aiken, SC based DFG Stables had an impressive opening week in Conyers as they swept up numerous Championships.

Geitner dedicated the majority of his time in coaching and cheerleading his clients to great rides. Cara Dodson, one of the younger competitors at DFG had a stellar run in the Pony Jumpers taking Championship honors in the division, top call in the NAL Pony Jumper section, and winning the Pony Style Award –all with partner The Waterboy.

Also in the jumper ranks, owner-rider Laura Regan claimed the title of Champion with mount Verdi in the Low Junior-Amateur Jumper Classic, while Catherine Stumberg rode sister Sara’s Snook to a 3rd place finish in the Children-Adult Jumper Classic. Horse show veterinarian extraordinaire Dr. Juan Gamboa and Partizan were named Reserve Champions in the Adult Amateur Jumper division. And not to be left out of the winners circle, Geitner once again had Kyle Register’s Trading Places in the top placings with a 3rd in the $25,000 Atlanta Spring Premiere Grand Prix. “He’s having a great season!” Geitner commented.

This week found the hunters of DFG Stables ruling the roost. Beginning with Geitner’s Reserve Championship aboard the Cornelia Buckley owned Point Taken in the Pre Green 3’ Hunter section. And just as the name conjures an image of suave and stealthy, 007 didn’t disappoint owner-rider Joelle Kennedy who captured the 3’ Open Hunter Tri Colors of Champion. Cara Dodson found herself back in victory lane with Don Callisto (owned by David Wright) taking both the Children’s Hunter 14 & Under Division and Classic top spots. Also pulling in double Championships was Elizabeth Butterworth, first with the Knightwood Stables, LTD entry Palmer in the 15 & Under Junior Hunters and then with her own Sportspage in the Large Pony Hunter section. Wrapping the regular hunter divisions up were the talented Adult Amateurs- and what better Mothers Day present for new mom Elizabeth Tarumianz than being named best of the best in the Adult Amateur 18-35 section and the NAL WIHS Adult (18-35) Hunter Classic with mount Bonafide. Accepting the Reserve Champion title in that same division was Catherine Stumberg with Ringo. Laura Regan jumped into a Reserve Champion spot for the Adult Amateurs 36-45 section with Orient De Mesille to end the weekend on a high note for DFG.

The icing on the cake for DFG Stables’ first week of competition in Atlanta was the sweep of top positions in the equitation-medal classes. Rose Borzillo riding the Joelle Kennedy owned Grafite took 2nd in the USEF Hunter Seat Medal, 4th in the ASPCA Maclay Medal, 2nd in both the WIHS Hunter and Jumper sections, and was named the Overall WIHS Champion. While owner-rider Katherine Paul rode Promessa to a 2nd place finish in the Ariat Adult Medal class.

Daniel and the DFG family will take a few days off to relax before the second week of competition in Conyers, GA at the Georgia International Horse Park resumes with another $25,000 Grand Prix and the debut of Equus Events’ $10,000 Hunter Derby.
