DFG Stables Triumphant at March Madness

Aiken, SC March 2, 2009— Returning to their home turf the riders of Aiken, SC based DFG Stables continue their winning ways. At week one of the March Madness, held at Highfield’s Event Center, the DFG team garnered several top ribbons as well as Champion and Reserve Championships.

Beginning with head trainer-owner Daniel Geitner scoring a 3rd place in the Aiken County Hunters with the Lisa Linehan owned Free Falling. Geitner also landed an impressive 3rd place in the 1st Year Green Working Hunter division with Rebecca Cameron’s London. Moving over to the jumper arena Geitner picked up several top placings with his up and coming jumpers, starting with the Capall, LLC entry White Oak taking the blue in the Meter 1.05 jumpers. Janet Peterson’s Baldato Van’t Merelsnest picked up a 2nd place in the Meter 1.15 section with Geitner in the irons. He also grabbed a pair of red ribbons with Star Bound for owner Stardust Stables, LLC and another 2nd aboard Ostara in the Meter 1.05 division for owner Margaret Hirschfield. In the $5000 Welcome Stake it was a 5th place finish for Geitner with Neville, owned by CDS Stables.

Also from the jumper arena owner-rider Brian Gjetley captured the win with Piks Pistelero in the Welcome Stake and Geitner’s assistant JF Gagne rode The Bus to a 7th place spot. Owner-rider Kathryn Crump aboard Caletto claimed a 1st place in the Meter 1.15 jumpers and a 2nd in the Junior-Amateur Owner jumper division.

The big winners from the DFG team scoring tri colored ribbons this week included

the Amateur Owner Hunter 35 & Over section where Kimberly Quinn partnered with Gershwin waltzed away with Championship honors and she landed a 2nd place with other mount Springsteen in the same division. While Molly Donohue sang a winning tune with Sinatra (owned by Quinn) in the Children’s 15-17 Hunter sections, and owner-rider Katherine Paul and Nobilo took Reserve Champion in the Pre Green 3’ hunters. Paul also took a 4th place ribbon in the Open Hunters and owner-rider Kyle Register scored the 2nd place spot with Impression.

Daniel and the DFG family will compete in the finale week of the Aiken March Madness and then hit the road to Conyers, GA for the Atlanta Spring Classics competition at the Georgia International Horse Park.
