DFG Stables Celebrates Spring with Big Wins

Aiken, SC April 20, 2009—As week one of the Aiken Spring Classics closes out at Highfield’s Event Center , the hometown champs of DFG Stables have amassed several Championship, Reserve Championship titles, and another Grand Prix victory for Daniel Geitner and Trading Places.

Kicking it all off was head trainer-owner Daniel Geitner scoring a Reserve Championship with the Frederick Schofield owned Acorino in the Regular Working Hunters. Geitner had taken this young stallion to Champion honors in the Young Jumpers divisions during 2007-2008 campaigns and continues demonstrating Acorino’s versatility with a smooth transition in the hunter arenas. “He got such a wonderful disposition, no matter what is asked of him.” Geitner said. Acorino also debuted in the top 10 of this week’s $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby. Moving to the Conformation Hunters Geitner picked up several top placings with Janet Peterson’s up and coming Happy Fours. Daniel continued collecting nice ribbons in the 1st Year Green Working Hunters paired with Michele Allison’s Mystic Castle. And in the Open Hunter section Geitner picked up a blue ribbon riding Zelano for owner Laura Regan. Capping off Geitner’s time in the hunter ring was the Championship in the Baby Green Division with Robin Hughes’ Harry Potter.

Speaking of Young Jumpers, Laura Regan’s Wiedan placed 2nd in the 6 Year-Old section with Geitner in the pilot’s seat. Laura would later pick up a 5th with mount Verdi in the Low Junior-Amateur Jumper section. Also from the jumper ring Catherine “Cat” Stumberg captured a 2nd place with Snook in the 1.10 Meter Jumpers and a very respectable 5th in the Adult Amateur Jumper section. Owner-rider Randy Hannold picked up a 2nd place in the Adult Amateur Jumpers with Grandisimo. Kathryn Jarriel took a 2nd in the Children’s Jumper with Wat Tyler. Kitt Ritter landed Jumbo Jet into a 2nd place finish in the High Junior-Amateur Jumper division and Victoria Wilson picked up a 3rd in the Low Junior-Amateur section with CR Day Date.

However, as the weekend drew near it was Geitner who again took center stage with the $25,000 Aiken Spring Classic Grand Prix, taking on a tough field of 28 horses and the challenging course by Jamie Alder. Riding three of the nine finalists, Geitner was victorious with Trading Places –owned by Kyle Register- before a cheering hometown crowd. “This guy always gives 200% of himself, win or lose. Happily today was another win for him.” Geitner complimented his partner.

Additional big winners from the DFG team this week include a double victory from the Amateur Owner Hunter Classic for Kimberly Quinn with Springsteen winning and Gershwin placing 2nd. Quinn and Springsteen also won Reserve Championship honors in the Amateur Equitation division. Meanwhile “Cat” Stumberg and Farasi took the Champion title in the Adult Equitation 18-35 section. Anna Wells-Sharp and Kissme had a stellar weekend picking up top call in the NAL WIHS Adult 36 & Over Hunter Classic as well as Champion in the Adult Amateur Hunter [36 & Over] division. Molly Donohue stepped up her game winning Reserve Champ honors with Princeton in the Hopeful Hunter sections, and owner-rider Elizabeth Butterworth wrote up a Reserve Championship in the Large Pony Hunters as well as Champion in the Schooling Pony Hunters on Sportspage. And Rebecca Cameron took London to a Reserve Championship title in the Unrestricted Child-Adult Hunter division.

Daniel and the DFG family will compete in the finale week of the Aiken Spring Classics, and then it’s back on the road to Conyers, GA for the Atlanta Spring Premier competition at the Georgia International Horse Park.
