DFG Stables Double Their Victories at Two Winter Circuits

Aiken, SC February 9, 2009—The riders of Aiken, SC based DFG Stables who began the new season with a flurry of wins continued the trend with numerous victories at not one, but two Winter Circuits.

DFG Stables co-owner-trainer Cathy Geitner kicked off the Cupid Classics at Aiken’s Highfield Event Center with a Reserve Championship in the Pre Green 3’3” Hunter division riding December for owner Rebekah Warren. Cathy also garnered top ribbons on Warren’s 3 foot Pre Green entry Fiona. Later into the weekend Warren’s daughter Charlotte captured the Reserve Champion title aboard the Victoria Free owned Step N Out in the Short Stirrup division.

Also from the hunter rings, Kimberly Quinn had double honors in the Amateur-Owner Hunter 35 & Over section with her beloved Gershwin swinging to the beat of Champion and Springsteen singing to the tune of Reserve Champ. However, Springsteen was the main act for the AO-Junior Hunter Classic giving a blue ribbon performance. Alexis Reece still has Reason to Believe, they were the Reserve Champs in the Pre Adult divisions, and Molly Donohue partnered with Sinatra [owned by Quinn] turned in a stellar solo spot that earned them a 2nd in the THIS Children’s Medal and a 7th placing in the tough WIHS NAL Children’s Hunter Classic.

Other members of the DFG team scoring big ribbons this week included Catherine Stumberg with a 1st and 2nd in the Meter 95 and 1.05 jumper sections aboard sister Sara’s Snook and Riverdance respectively. Assistant trainer JF Gagne took his new [The] Bus to a 2nd place finish in the Open Jumper Stake as well as a blue ribbon in the Meter 1.15 class. And after scoring a 2nd place in the Handy JR Hunter with mount Bellagio, owner-rider Kathryn Jarriel dipped a hoof into the jumper arena with Wat Tyler picking up a 1st in the Meter 95 Add Backs.

Traveling over a few states we find head trainer Daniel Geitner settling into the Ocala, FL HITS Winter Series with a strong 3rd place finish in the $10,000 Open Jumper aboard the Janet Peterson owned Artur 28. From there Geitner picked up a blue ribbon in the 1st Year Green Working section and a 2nd in the Cismont Manor Green Conformation Classic riding Elizabeth Tarumianz’s Bonafide. Daniel continued collecting hunter ribbons with a 2nd place aboard Zelano in the Pre Green 3’ division and a 4th in the Low Hunters riding Orient de Mesiele, both owned by Laura Regan. Also placing nicely in the hunter rings was Sabrina Giancroce with a 1st place partnered with Vegas-owned by Megan Edrick. Cara Dodson scored a 2nd in the Modified Children’s 14 & Under plus a very respectable 5th place in the Marshall & Sterling NAL Children’s Hunter Classic. Afterwards Dodson went on to place 4th in the Marshall & Sterling NAL Children’s Jumper Classic with The Waterboy.

Meanwhile DFG rider Kitt Ritter landed Jumbo Jet into a 2nd place berth in the Low JR AO Jumpers and owner- rider Laura Regan guided Verdi to a 1st place spot in the Meter 1.25 section. Daniel opted to use this first week as a mode to ease back into competition after some well deserved downtime, but look for Team DFG to heat things up in the Sunshine State next week.
