Diane Carney Finds Success In and Out of Show Ring at Evergreen Invitational

Kenosha, WI - September 16, 2008 - This past week Diane Carney of Telluride Farm contributed to a successful fundraising event in Kenosha, WI. Along with training her students at the Evergreen Invitational, Carney raised awareness for Chicago Equestrians For a Cause, a philanthropic group that raises money for the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and other significant charities. Other members of Chicago Equestrians For a Cause include Lynn Jayne and Caroline Weeden.

Chicago Equestrians For a Cause was the recipient of funds raised by the USHJA Hunter Derby at the Evergreen Invitational. Held at M.K. Pritzker's incredible horse show, the hunter derby class raised money for a generous donation that will be given to the Children's Memorial Hospital.

"The hunter derby on Sunday at Evergreen was a beautiful class," commented Carney. "A lot of water had accumulated on the grand prix field over the weekend. We set the hunter track on Saturday afternoon, but the field had a good eight inches of water on it. M.K. Pritzker, out of concern for the welfare of the horses, insisted we run the class in the indoor arena. We mobilized an enormous party of people to strip the field and rebuild the course indoors," she said.

"With the help of course designer Richard Jeffery, as well as David Distler, the jump crew, myself, and Rush Weeden, a Herculean effort was made to relocate the class to the indoor, which was quite a ways from the grand prix field. It was amazing."

She added, "The hunter derby was very good. It was a great opportunity to practice an indoor derby course. Along with everyone's teamwork, I thought the class itself was a great experience for everyone, especially because the year-end derby finals might be held in an indoor arena next year. It was an absolutely beautiful indoor ring, and the Polytrack footing was fantastic."

Through the generosity of M.K. Pritzker, the horse show, hunter derby, and the fundraising efforts of Chicago Equestrians For a Cause were all extremely successful.

"I want to say thank you to Stacey Lefton Glick for sponsoring the Groom's Award," related Carney. "Because of her sponsorship, additional proceeds will go toward the charity and the hospital."

Carney's students from Telluride Farm had a great show as well. Caitie Hope piloted La Paz on Saturday in the $25,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic and was one of three competitors to make the jump-off. She also rode Ozaliat for Jane Sassmannshausen and finished in the ribbons.

"Caitie really tried to win in the jump-off and just didn't hit the right angle on the last jump, but she was great. We were happy to finish in the top three," stated Carney. "Her second horse jumped fabulous as well. Plus, all of my students were great in the hunter derby." In the USHJA Hunter Derby, Caitie Hope pinned fifth aboard Cinch, owned by Kathleen Hope. Brenda Mueller, Hannah Gorman, and Stephanie Pearson also finished in the top 12.

Carney of Hampshire, IL, has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d'Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr.
