Dressage at Devon Raises $58,000 for Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding

Devon, PA--Dressage at Devon, one of the premier horse shows in North America, continued its tradition of supporting Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding, Inc. by raising $58,000 in 2008. The event attracts the world's best horses for both a CDI-W dressage competition and an enormous breed show that is considered an important achievement on a horse's résumé. Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding, Inc. has been the recipient of funds from Dressage at Devon since 1991. The non-profit organization hosts 350 adults and children each week at the farm to participate in "complete therapy" with its 40 horses. Since 1969, Thorncroft has strived to build the physical, emotional and mental well-being of all people, particularly those with special needs, through establishing an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and love in an equestrian environment.

"Each one of us that rides and competes is fortunate to spend time doing what we love," says Nan Daley Demchur, Acting Chairman of the Board of Dressage at Devon. "It is important for us to give back and we are thrilled that Dressage at Devon has been able to provide funds to Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding for the past 18 Years. As the largest and oldest therapeutic riding program in the country, Thorncroft will once again serve as the show's beneficiary in 2009."

While the 35th edition of the show is still months away in September, the organizers are already promoting what is sure to be a great event. During the busy Florida season, Dressage at Devon sponsored FEI classes at two major CDI shows, the Gold Coast Opener and the Wellington Dressage Classic I, and was a supporter of The Challenge of the Americas.

"Our goal is to keep Dressage at Devon on everyone's minds throughout the year," explains Eileen Johnston, Director of PR and Board member. "By working with other strategic partners we hope to help bring the entire sport to a higher level."

Participants and spectators at the 35th edition of Dressage at Devon, September 22-27, 2009, will be delighted to know that all of the things they love about the event, from the great prize money and shopping, to the parties and educational opportunities, are on schedule for this year.

The six-day show has hosted some of the world's top Olympic equestrians over the years, including Robert Dover, Ashley Holzer, Carol Lavell, Lars Petersen and Hilda Gurney. More than 700 horses and 35,000 spectators are expected this year. Complete information, including the prizelist, is now available online on the show's new website, http://www.dressageatdevon.org.
