eBay Sellers Are Helping Angel Acres Rescue Thoroughbreds

eBay Sellers Are Helping Angel Acres Rescue Thoroughbreds
GLENVILLE, PA – July 26, 2006 --A Breyer Ruffian model created by Faye Cohen is being auctioned on eBay to raise money for Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc., in Glenville, Pennsylvania, to advance the adoption of thoroughbreds rescued from being slaughtered.

The Breyer Ruffian model is just one of the unsolicited items offered for sale on eBay by private individuals wanting to help rescue thoroughbreds.

“We are thrilled that people feel so strongly about our cause that, without being asked, they raise money for us by placing items on eBay,” says Jo Deibel, President of the Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. http://www.saveahorsenow.org. “This demonstrates that many good-hearted Americans are moved by the horrible treatment given thoroughbreds auctioned off to kill buyers and processed as horseflesh to be eaten.”

Some of the eBay supporters are signing up to support Angel Acres via MissionFish (http://www.missionfish.org). MissionFish helps individuals support their favorite causes through trading on eBay! Since 2000, the agency has lent its support to thousands of organizations and donors, and raised millions of dollars through online auctions.

Proceeds from the Breyer Ruffian sale, and other eBay auction proceeds, will be used to encourage the adoption by responsible owners of these beautiful horses whose only shortcoming is that they can no longer race at full speed.

The thoroughbred Ruffian, a brilliant dark bay filly, won race after race until its fateful match against Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure -- the race in which she lost her life from an injury.

Faye Cohen, who collected model horses since age 5, started customizing Breyer horses in 1998 and discovered her passion for making model horses “come alive"

More than 86,000 horses, 15 percent of them thoroughbreds, are slaughtered annually in America and sold as horsemeat to be eaten in Europe and Asia. American horseflesh is shipped overseas where diners are paying up to $25 a pound to eat horsemeat.

Because of this shocking treatment of American race horses, Deibel quit her job in Maryland to move to Pennsylvania where she founded Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue.

Persons may go to http://www.saveahorsenow.org to learn how to adopt a horse or how to sponsor a horse by paying for its upkeep until it can be adopted.
