GEORGETOWN, KY—JUNE 24, 2009—Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred retirement facility based in central Kentucky, today announce that pop singer Eddie Money is the latest celebrity to create a label for the Old Friends “Artist Signature” wine-bottle series produced by Chrisman Mill Vineyard & Winery.
Money has sketched and signed a depiction of Old Friends retiree Bonapaw, winner of the 2002 Vosburg Stakes, who was pensioned at the retirement farm in March. The label will become the fourth in the celebrity series. Jack Nicholson, Albert Brooks, and Anjelica Huston have all donated labels to the fundraising effort, and each of those bottles has sold out.
Chrisman Mill will use the artwork on a limited, numbered edition of their award-winning Vidal Blanc. It will produce only 1,000 bottles for sale (retail price is $21.99) and nearly 50 percent of the proceeds will go to Old Friends, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that has rescued and retired more than 50 former racehorses.
The wine will be officially launched on July 10 with a special tasting party at Chrisman Mill’s Hamburg Plaza retail outlet, followed by a special tasting on July 11 at the Liquor Barn’s Beaumont Center store in Lexington.
The wine will be available at all Liquor Barn outlets, Chrisman Mill’s two retail locations, and via phone and website orders.
Money, best know for his songs “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Baby Hold On”, has recorded more than a dozen top-selling albums and has produced numerous Top-40 hits. He still tours regularly and works with many charities helping children, including the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. His first play, the musical Two Tickets to Paradise, recently premiered at the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center in New York.
“Horses are just the most beautiful animals,” said Money, who counts himself among the many celebs that come to Churchill Downs each May for the Kentucky Derby. “And I think what Old Friends is doing is just great. It’s also an excellent wine,” he continued. “I was very happy that the quality of the wine was as good as the quality of the whole campaign to save these wonderful animals.”
Based in Nicholasville, KY, Chrisman Mill is owned by Denise and Chris Nelson (she is a Tuscan-inspired chef; he is the master winemaker). They partnered with Old Friends for the “Artist Signature Series” in 2007.
“It’s very important to us to be able to give back to the community,” said Denise Nelson, “and we were lucky enough to find a fantastic organization like Old Friends to work with. The relationship is a win-win situation. These collector bottles help raise awareness of their cause as well as much needed funding. In turn, our wines and the Kentucky growers we use receive more and more recognition.”
“The ‘Artist Signature Series’ has been a remarkable fund-raising opportunity for us,” said Old Friends president and founder Michael Blowen “We can’t thank the people of Chrisman Mill enough for working with us, and publicist Marybeth MacKay for making the arrangements with Eddie. We’re so honored to have the support of such a great musical artist.”
Money has also graciously autographed 100 bottles from the edition that will be elegantly boxed with the wine collector in mind. These exclusive “Artist Proof” bottles will only be available from Chrisman Mill via phone and website (for $49.99). Call 859-881-5007, or visit http://www.chrismanmill.com
. Pre-orders are currently being accepted.
“Collector's series increase the value of the bottle not only because a celebrity has lent their name and artwork to the product, but also because the wine becomes part of a set,” adds Nelson. “We have been so fortunate to have had the support of Jack Nicholson, Angelica Huston, Albert Brooks, and now Eddie Money.”
Additional “Artist Signature Wines are expected to be released later in the year, the first featuring artwork donated by singer Gary U.S. Bonds.
