“The EQUUS Foundation was founded just three years ago by a small group of horse enthusiasts who became increasingly aware of the many organizations doing great work involving horses. These enthusiasts saw the opportunity to raise funds through an association with the Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show in Westport, Connecticut”, said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS President. “In that first year, EQUUS was able to raise enough funds by holding a Benefit Luncheon in conjunction with the Fairfield Grand Prix, to award $100,000 to seven charities. In just three years, we have awarded over $350,000 in grants. In the coming years, we hope to establish a donor base independent of the special events we hold so that we can increase the number of grant recipients. EQUUS received nearly 50 requests for 2006 funds, but were only able to accept 28.”

The EQUUS Foundation will hold its 2006 Benefit Luncheon and Auction in conjunction with the $25,000 Fairfield Grand Prix on Saturday, June 24, 2006, the grand finale of the Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show in Westport, Connecticut. The show, nominated for the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame as one of the top eight shows in the country, has expanded its jumper divisions in recent years and also features a $10,000 Amateur-Owner/Junior Jumper Classic.

The EQUUS Foundation will also hold a fund raising event during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, the “FETE CHEVAL FLORIDA” on Saturday evening, February 11, 2006. Guests will enjoy a casual evening of feasting & equestrian revelry featuring cocktails, dinner cuisine by Affairs to Remember, and a silent auction, topped off by gymkhana games performed by America’s Top Grand Prix Riders and Trainers. The event will be held in the Special Events Pavilion overlooking the Internationale Arena where the gymkhana games will take place. The 2005 event was regarded as one of the best events of the 2005 season.
