Erin Haas and All of a Sudden Win Low Junior/Amateur Jumpers at Horse Shows by the Bay II

Traverse City, MI - July 23, 2008 - The second week of the Horse Shows by the Bay competition started today and featured a list of classes in the Team Elmer's Grand Prix Ring. In the Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers, it was Ann Arbor, Michigan resident Erin Haas who took the win with All of a Sudden.

This week's jumper courses in the grand prix ring are designed by Michel Vaillancourt of Canada. Today's class was a Time First Jump-off Format. There were 25 entries in the class, 21 had a clear round to advance to the jump-off, and 13 of those were double clear.

Haas went in the middle of the class and was chasing a time of 31.704 seconds set by Laura Pfeiffer of Temperance, MI, on Jordy. Haas and All of a Sudden, a 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, had very good turns with a very fast pace to take the lead in 29.711 seconds.

Other riders were able to go clear, but none were able to match her time. The one who came closest was Rachel Reid on Blossom, who stopped the timers in 29.873 seconds for second place.

Haas has owned All of a Sudden for five years, and she has competed him in both the Low and High sections. "He's fast and pretty careful," Haas pointed out. "He's good at this height."

Haas has just returned to Michigan from a year-long veterinary internship in New Jersey, and she has only been riding and showing for two weeks. While Haas was studying, her horses had a long break from competition. "I train with Aaron Vale. He showed him in Ocala a little bit just to keep him fit, but other than that he was at our home in Michigan. I'm just getting going again," she said. "I'm tired by the end of the day, but I'm very happy to be back at home, back at the horse shows, and back with my horses again."

While many treat the first class of the week as a warm-up, Haas used it as practice for not only her horse, but for her competitive edge. "I try to practice my competitiveness as well. With not having been in the saddle for awhile, when you're going fast there's a lot of timing and looking around corners. It was good practice since I haven't been doing it much lately," she explained.

Haas has competed at Horse Shows by the Bay for all five years and has seen it grow into a major competition on the summer circuit. "It's really impressive to see how it's changed from the first year, looking back at how many people were in the classes and the quality of horses here this year as opposed to the first year. The management gets better every year; they've done so much with the facility. All the time they're thinking about how they can improve it, so it's really amazing how far it's come in such a short time period."

Thanks to people like the Haas family of North Face Farm, Horse Shows by the Bay has prospered. "My family has been a supporter and a sponsor from the very first year," she stated. "It's from the standpoint that I do the jumpers and it's nice to have a good jumper show in my home state, especially since they do not have Detroit/Motor City Horse Show any longer. We thought it was important to help support getting a show in the state that had grand prix again."

The second week of Horse Shows by the Bay continues tomorrow with a day full of competition in the Team Elmer's Grand Prix ring. The highlight class of the day is the $3,000 NAL Open Speed. For more information and full results, please visit http://www.horsesportsbythebay.com.
