Bloomberg and Cesar Triumph in Speed Class at Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic

Hamilton, MA – September 7, 2006 – Today’s highlight at the Coldwell Banker Previews Field at the Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic was the $1,000 Level 7 class, sponsored by South Ridge. Twenty-six entries went to post for the class scored under Table II, Section 1, Time First Round. The course was designed by Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England.

The grass footing of the Grand Prix Arena held up nicely after yesterday’s show, and exhibitors in today’s speed class galloped their way to a close competition. After Gotham Enterprizes’s Femme Fatale and Georgina Bloomberg of New York, NY, took the lead with a clear time of 75.614 seconds, the following riders had to raise their game.

Westport, Connecticut’s Leslie Burr Howard and her own Lennox Lewis 2 put in a fast, clear round with a time of 72.339 seconds. The pair was soon edged by Joanne Kovacs aboard Noberina, who came home in 71.671 seconds. Noberina is owned by Storm Ridge Capital, LLC of Newtown, CT. Colin Syquia and Qena II then bettered Kovacs’ score after tripping the timers in 65.353 seconds, and Caitlin Shiels of Sheffield, CT, had a clean go with Memphis in 66.990 seconds, which held up for third place. Qena II is owned by Ladson LLC in Acramdale, NY. Darragh Kerins and Night Train, owned by Double H Farm in Ridgefield, CT, added another clean round to the score board with a final time of 72.959 seconds.

Bloomberg then returned on her second mount, Don Cesar, and the chestnut’s quick pace and large stride rapidly covered the ground for a blazing time of 64.944 seconds. Don Cesar, also owned by Gotham Enterprizes, and Bloomberg led the victory gallop.

“We haven’t shown him much this summer,” commented Bloomberg about her winning mount. “We had him over in Europe with us, but we worked with him primarily for training. I plan to show him this week and get the [American] Gold Cup out of him, and then we’ll give him some time off for indoors.”

“He’s a younger horse that’s for the future,” she related, “so we’re keeping him in the small classes and working on building a partnership together. Then we’ll move up a little bit,” she said with a smile. “He’s one of the best horses I’ve ever sat on, so it’s fun to work with a horse with that much talent.”

“We’re going to keep him in the small classes here, and then I’m going to show Femme Fatale in the Welcome on Friday,” explained Bloomberg. “She’s a relatively new horse that I bought in Florida, and this will be my first grand prix with her. Then I’ll show Cim Christo in the Grand Prix on Sunday.”

In the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers, Megan McGregor of Bridgewater, NJ, and Chester finished in the top spot. New Canaan, Connecticut’s Kelsey Silverstein and Temps De Voler came in second, and Natalie Gizzi and Paco took home the yellow ribbon. Gizzi and Paco hail from Katonah, NY.

Leslie Burr Howard won the Level 6 class with her mount Midnight Hour, owned by Edwin Wilson of Westport, CT. Darlene Sandlin came away with second aboard Falcon Farm’s Original, and third place was presented to Howard and her own horse, Raimond W.

The Young Jumper Speed class awarded Kent Farrington and Caridel first place. Caridel is owned by Susan Gordon of Brookline, MA. Schuyler Riley of Wellington, FL, and Undine captured second, and Jose Rega and Shinto 3 finished in third. Undine is owned by Turtle Hall Farm, and Venezuela resident Victoria Vargas D’Agostino owns Shinto 3.

Tomorrow the Grand Prix Arena features the highly anticipated $7,500 Welcome Stake, as well as the $2,000 High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers, the Masters Division presented by The World, and another Young Jumper class.
