Grand Prix Freestyles Showcased at Zada WEF Dressage Classic

WELLINGTON, FL – March 15, 2007 – ‘Freestyle Sundays’ have been the tradition for the Stadium Jumping, Inc. Dressage Series at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida, for many years, but in 2007 the Zada Enterprises, LLC WEF Dressage Classic CDI-W CDI-Y, will showcase freestyles on both Saturday and Sunday March 24 and 25. The Grand Prix musical freestyle rides will be presented on Saturday, March 24, starting at 9:00 am.

With more than a dozen riders scheduled to compete in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle CDI-W, and heavily entered classes for the additional musical freestyles in the FEI Junior, FEI Young Rider CDI-Y, and FEI Intermediaire I CDI divisions, Mary Silcox, head of dressage at Stadium Jumping, Inc., made an adjustment in the show’s schedule to accommodate the extraordinary number of competitors in the kurs. The Grand Prix Freestyles will take place on Saturday, and all of the other freestyle rides will be presented on Sunday, March 25, starting at 8:30 am.

“We will have ‘Freestyle Saturday’ and ‘Freestyle Sunday’ this year, which is a really spectacular way to wrap up the 2007 dressage series at the Winter Equestrian Festival,” Silcox noted. “The caliber of riders is extremely high this year. Our riders are competing to garner qualifying scores for the most prestigious national and international championships – most notably the Rolex FEI World Cup™, which will be held in April in Las Vegas, and the Pan Am Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July. This is a great opportunity for spectators to witness these world-class freestyles.”

Some of the topnotch U.S. riders scheduled to exhibit freestyles during the weekend include George Williams, Carol Lavell, Katherine Bateson-Chandler, Tami Hoag, Michael Shondell, Lauren Sammis, Bent Jensen, and Susan Jaccoma. A strong contingent of international riders will also contest the kurs including Canada’s Ashley Holzer, Simone Williams, and Shannon Dueck; Colombia’s Marco Bernal and Cesar Parra; Mexico’s Patrick Burssens; and Denmark’s Mikala Gundersen.

The Zada Enterprises, LLC WEF Dressage Classic CDI-W CDIY (March 22-25) is the third and final show in the 2007 Stadium Jumping dressage series at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club. The show will feature a variety of highly competitive classes from Training Level through Grand Prix, including qualifiers for the U.S. National Freestyle Championship and U.S. League Finals for the 2007 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final; Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Grand Prix National Championship, Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Intermediaire I National Championship/Pan American Games Selection Trials; North American Young Rider Championships (NAYRC); USEF National Junior Championship; and the GAIG/USDF Regional Championships.

The show also includes qualifying competitions for the North American Danish Warmblood Association (NADWA) High Point Awards Program. NADWA presents an annual award to the horse/rider combination earning the highest score for a single ride (USDF Championship classes are excluded). The owner, rider and horse must be NADWA members.

The Zada Enterprises, LLC WEF Dressage Classic CDI-W CDIY is a Concours de Dressage Internationale (CDI), warranting that the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club will host exclusively dressage competitors for the Stadium Jumping dressage series finale. The show jumpers and hunters will be competing in Tampa, Florida, as the 35th annual Winter Equestrian wraps up 10 weeks in Florida on April 7.

Officiating at the Zada Enterprises, LLC WEF Dressage Classic CDI-W CDI-Y will be an impressive panel of international judges: Gary Rockwell (O) USA, President of the Ground Jury; Bernard Maurel (O) FRA; Elizabeth McMullen (O) CAN; Peter Holler (I) GER; Joan Macartney (I) CAN; Jessica Ransehousen (I) USA; Joachim Orth (C) MEX; Jane Weatherwax (C) USA; Thomas Poulin (S) USA; Cynthia Canace (R); and Susanne Handler (R). Show officials include Loretta Berg, Technical Delegate; Lloyd Landkamer, FEI Chief Steward; Dr. Steve Soule, FEI Veterinarian; and Klaus Fraessdorf, show manager.
