Gary Brewster and his Mount Royal Viali Win the $25,000 HITS Grand Prix

TUCSON, AZ (February 25, 2008)--Canadian Gary Brewster and his mount Royal Viali captured the blue ribbon in Sunday's $25,000 HITS Grand Prix to conclude the Tucson Winter Classic at HITS Arizona.

Brewster got the best of 23 pairs in the first round and seven combinations in the jump-off to score $7,500 in prize money. He had the ride aboard the 12-year-old Dutch horse for Suzanne Brewster.

"I was the fourth to go in the jump-off and there were already two clear rounds before me so I knew I had to go for it," said Brewster. "Luckily, my horse pulled it off. It was a great course to ride. The oxer's were big and wide."

First to go in the jump-off were Janine Carhart and her mount Lieutenant Kije. The pair laid a clean round in 34.790 to set the Great American Time to Beat. The pair would eventually finish the day in second place.

Second to challenge the route were Megan Edrick and her horse Kandel. The pair also went through without dropping any rails and stopped the clocks in 35.869 to secure third place for Procedues, Inc. Next to go were Natasha Merback and her ride Van Schindel's Cindy. The pair dropped three rails and had to settle for seventh place.

Fourth to challenge were Brewster and his mount Royal Viali. They were just fast enough to push Carhart and her mount into second place. Brewster and Royal Viali's time of 34.751 would be good enough for the blue ribbon.

Fifth to compete in the jump-off were Steven Turilli and his mount Canada BC. The combinations clear round in 37.920 landed them in fourth place.

Carhart was back for her second trip of the jump-off. This time is was aboard her mount Panache. An unlucky rail down midway through the trip placed the duo into fifth place. Sitting in the enviable last-to-go spot were JJ Atkinson and his mount Rambo. A rail down at the jump-off's second obstacle left the pair in sixth place.

In other action at HITS Arizona, Jennifer Williams and Mojito secured the $4,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper High Classic; Theo Boros and Santor led the way in the $2,500 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Low Classic; while Teayn Holemen and Chancellor took home blue in the $2,500 Modified Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic.
