Grandeur & Dawn Fogel Win Amateur-Owner 18-35 Yr. Stakes

WELLINGTON, Fla., March 8--Dawn Fogel and Grandeur won the Amateur-Owner 18-35 yr. Stakes class on Saturday at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising.

Windy weather was a challenge for some riders and their mounts but not for the 10-year-old bay gelding and his owner and rider of Louisville, Ky. who scored 88.

Fogel and Grandeur ride with trainer Rick Fancher also of Louisville. The horse and rider pair have been showing together for two years. This week is their first show at WEF.

"He is a very quiet horse to ride with a nice big jump," Dawn said. "I made a few mistakes in the first class but the stakes class went very well. I really enjoy riding him and I am happy to have him.'

Champion honors for the week in the Amateur-Owner 18-35 yrs. Hunters was awarded to Lavari and Tracy Scheriff.

Scheriff, 24, of Ramsey, N.J. and the 12-year-old bay gelding, Lavari, placed second with a score of 86 in the first trip Saturday, and fourth in the second trip with the score of 85.25, adding to their points on Friday to put them in champion position.

Scheriff, who had a broken leg that led to a year off from riding, ride with Havens Schatt of Ocala, Fla.

"He is awesome and always perfect," Tracy said. "If there is a mistake it is usually my fault. He came back after my time off better than he was before. He's been very consistent in the ribbons but this is our first champion this circuit."

Krista Weisman, 23, of Sherborn, Mass. and the eight-year-old chestnut gelding, West Point, held the second high point position for the division this week giving them reserve honors. The pair finished second in the under saddle, second in the stakes class with the score of 87, and first in one of their over fences classes on Friday.
