Great Meadow and Gold Cup Association Announce Plans for Fall Festival

WARRENTON, VA -- The staff at Great Meadow and the Gold Cup Association are proud to announce several activities to be held in conjunction with the International Gold Cup (IGC) -- the Fall Festival. Three events are planned:

October 6—An Enchanted Evening—The Debut of the Golden Vault—For 364 days a year, the trophies for the Spring and Fall Gold Cup race meets are safely stored in a bank vault. 25 in all, they are a breathtaking display of gold, silver and crystal. Each one is unique, crafted with painstaking artistry, some are antiques. Never before seen together in public, they will be on display at Great Meadow for one night only. This event is an absolute “must” for race enthusiasts and the curious. A champagne reception begins at 6:00 pm in the Summer House where the trophies can be viewed. A donation of $100 per person is requested. Call 540-253-5000 to make your donation or email info@greatmeadow.org by October 1.

October 9—Steeplechasing 101 is a Fall Fashion and Tailgate Show, with a chance to walk the Gold Cup Course with the Experts.

Everyone asks “What should I wear to the Gold Cup?” LouLou, Christine Fox, and Horse Country Saddlery, will answer that question with a review of fall fashions appropriate for a steeplechase. Both men and women’s fashions will be displayed. The Fashion Show will be held at the Summer House from 2-4 p.m. RSVP is required by October 5. Please call 540-253-5000 or email ch@greatmeadow.org.

Additionally, Market Salamander will showcase trends in food and wine preparation and provide fresh ideas for tailgating. The Ferrari Club of North America kindly are contributing Ferraris for the tailgate expo where everything from hors d’ ouevres to table linens to flower decorations will be covered. Of course, there will be samples to try!

While the fashion conscious immerse themselves in clothing details and accessorizing, the more stalwart can walk the Great Meadow Course with racing experts. Some of our famed local trainers will point out the difference between a timber jump and a brush jump and answer questions such as what is a steeplethon, who is the NSA, what qualities does a winning horse need to possess in order to handle steeplechase jumps, and how a steeplechase is different from a flat race, etc.

There is no charge to attend this event, just an RSVP.

October 15—Great Meadow Foundation is excited to offer a Raffle/Drawing for a trip to Barbados. The trip includes two (2) first class round trip airline tickets to Barbados, including a five-night stay at Almond Resorts, an all-inclusive property. This trip is valued at $7,500 and is being raffled for $10 per ticket. Drawing for the raffle winner takes place on race day on the Stewards Stand.
