Pre Green Hunter Level 1

WELLINGTON, Fla., Feb. 7--Sari Clapperton and Ivory Coast won Grand Champion Pre Green Hunter Level 1 in Section A at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented bv Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center Thursday.

Clapperton of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Ivory Coast turned in an unbeatable blue ribbon performance Wednesday in both classes over fences and took first place Thursday in the Under Saddle.

This gave Ivory Coast, a six-year-old grey Trekhener gelding owned and ridden by Clapperton the Grand Champion honors.

"This is his first week showing and he went beautifully," she said. "He is an exceptional horse. He has the ingredients to go all the way."

The blue ribbon winner over fences in Section A was the four-year-old gelding, Prestwick, ridden by Sandy Farrell of Burnsville, Penn. and owned by Megan Fellows of Great Falls, Va. Prestwick and Sandy took the red ribbon in the Under Saddle finishing in the Reserve Champion position for the Section A this week.

The six-year-old dark brown gelding, Davingstein, won the blue ribbon in the over fences class and second place in the Under Saddle, completing the division with the Grand Champion ribbon in Section B.

Davingstein, shown by Penny Lombardo of Loxahatchee, Fla., is trained by Daryl Portela and owned by James B Pirtle Enterprises, both of Ft. Lauderdale, and finished first in one of his over fences classes Wednesday.

?He went beautifully this whole week," Lombardo said. "He is a lot of fun to ride."

Penny has been riding for the Pirtles for the past year. The pair placed Reserve earlier this circuit in the Pre Green Level 1 Section B division.

Reserve Champion honors for Section B went to the six-year-old chestnut gelding, Goldfinger, owned by Connie Lincoln of Gates Mills, Ohio and ridden by Jeff Gogul of Cleveland, Ohio. Goldfinger was the first place horse in the Under Saddle Thursday and second in two of his over fences classes.
