Gymkhana Fun For Everyone at Pine Ridge Equestrian Center

West Milford, NJ – July 11, 2007 – A night of fun and competition takes on new meaning at Pine Ridge Equestrian Center (40 Stephens Road, West Milford, NJ) on June 22 with the stable’s second Friday Night Gymkhana Races on Friday, July 27, 2007 beginning at 4:30 PM.

Instead of trying to knock down pins at a bowling lane or eating a fattening bag of popcorn and candy at the movies, come to the West Milford riding facility and try your hand at the exciting world of horses and gymkhana races! You don’t have to be an expert, or even own a horse, all you have to do is mount up and join the fun and excitement! And a fine BBQ will

keep everyone well fed during the event.

Registration for Pine Ridge Equestrian Center’s first-ever Friday Night Gymkhana is at 3:30 PM, one hour before the games commence. Each event will cost $10 for competition, and if you need a horse, the stable will provide you a fine mount for an additional $20 charge. (There will be protective headgear provided if you do not have your own, but if you don’t have riding boots, a shoe with a small heel is preferred for safety - no sneakers allowed). To register or learn more about this Friday event, please call 973-728-0163 or log onto http://www.pineridgeequestriancenter.com.

Pine Ridge Equestrian Center’s new manager Karen DeMauex and program director Sara Lutz will head up the fun and make sure that everyone is mounted on appropriate, well-trained horses for the rider’s level for those who would like a mount provided. Riders can bring their own horses and spectators are welcome free of charge, so bring you family and friends to try to beat – or cheer you on! Either way it will be a winning Friday for all!

The fun and action begins at 4:30 PM with the “Pee Wee” for the youngest set, followed by the “Juniors” and “Adults” at 6 PM. Riders can choose to compete in an English or Western saddle, depending on their preference and/or experience. Barrel Racing, where riders go as fast as they can around a set of three barrels, starts each division. This is followed by Pole Bending, where the riders must weave their mounts in between 5 poles, placed 21 feet apart, without knocking any down (a pole falling over equals time penalties). The Key Hole competition follows, during which riders enter a drawn circle through a small opening, and then must turn around and leave as fast

as possible – the catch? The horse’s feet CANNOT TOUCH the circle line or the rider will garner time faults!

Then comes the Bleeding Hearts, where riders and mounts must navigate a reverse clover pattern as fast as possible without knocking down a barrel, and then Barrel Dash, a straight gallop (or walk or trot if that is what you feel comfortable at) down to one barrel at the end of the arena and then around it and straight back through the timers as fast as possible.

The fun ends with the Flag Race, a competition that has various requirements, but usually entails picking up a flag from a bucket or holder from the back of your horse, and then putting it in a different bucket and bringing the last flag back through the timers… The fastest time in each competition will win bragging rights and of course the blue ribbon and trophy!

For further information on directions, the facility go to Pine Ridge Equestrian Center’s web site (http://www.pineridgeequestriancenter.com) or call (973)

728-0163 to register or email info@pineridgeequestriancenter.com.
