Halliday Enjoys Compiegne CCI**

Dual sportswoman Liz Halliday believes both her and horse Oscar took a lot of positives from the CCI** event at Compiegne, France at the weekend.
In just his second two-star competition, Oscar produced a strong display, despite a challenging course, leaving Halliday confident ahead of Oscar’s Advanced debut at the Chatsworth Horse Trials in May.
In a highly competitive field with over 90 entrants, Oscar was 19th after dressage, went clear on the cross country phase and had just one rail down in the show jumping to mark his continued improvement this year.
Halliday said: “I was very happy with him and he gained some important experience of competition at this level. I made a slight mistake during the dressage test, without which I think we would have been in the top ten, and we picked up a few time faults on the cross country section even though he jumped clear.
“It was a very tight and twisty course, so it wasn’t ideal for a big horse like Oscar, but generally he handled it well and is getting better all the time. Bearing in mind this was only his second event at this level, I was very pleased with his performance.”
Liz, who combines her careers as a 3-day eventer and racing driver, also praised the Compiegne organizers for another stunning event.
“I love Compiegne and, as always, it was a very enjoyable weekend. The organizers make sure everything runs smoothly and they do a really great job.”
Halliday is next in action at Hambledon this weekend, with Harry and Fox entered in the Open Intermediate category and Donovan in his first Novice. Oscar meanwhile will move on to compete at Chatsworth on 10-11 May in his first Advanced level competition.
