Halliday Back in the Saddle and Competing After Lengthy Absence

Halliday Back in the Saddle and Competing After Lengthy Absence
Liz Halliday made a welcome return to competition at the weekend with a strong performance in a dressage show at the Oldencraig Equestrian Centre, Surrey, UK.

The British-based Californian has missed the past four months after sustaining a broken collarbone in a 3 Day Event in July, but marked her return to the saddle with class wins with two of her horses, Donovan and Harry.

Harry took victory in the more challenging Elementary class, while Donovan, in his first event ever in the UK, was first in the Novice class and second in the Preliminary.

Importantly, Liz felt no ill effects in her right shoulder and admitted she was glad to return to action and was looking forward to resuming her dual sporting career in 3 day eventing and motorsport next year.

“It went very well and was a good way to return to competition,” Liz said. “Although it wasn’t a huge competition, it was still nice to come out on top! Harry was superb and took victory in his class while Donovan took first and second in the two categories he was entered in. He’s very young and inexperienced so I was proud of the way he performed.

“I’ve had the all clear from my doctor and, apart from some soreness, I’m having no major problems with the shoulder. I’ve started jumping again and I’ve also added some show jumping events to my schedule over the next few weeks.

“I’ll do three more dressage competitions over the next three weekends and then I’ll also be show jumping on the 4th and 11th of December. All four horses will be out competing at some point before Christmas and I’ll be riding them in some smaller events all through January and February before my season properly begins in Barroca, Portugal in March.”
