Manhattan Mortgage Sponsors Opening Day of the 31st Annual Hampton Classic

Bridgehampton, NY – August 28, 2006 - The Hampton Classic Horse Show began with Local Day competitions, entertainment and overcast skies. The rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of over 300 local exhibitors today. A good size crowd came to enjoy five rings with several hunter divisions and the $20,000 Nicolock Time Challenge jumper class.

Manhattan Mortgage has sponsored opening day for 11 years, and this year organized a mid-day exhibition entitled, “The World of the Horse.” Local children handled ponies, minis, and llamas in the parade of animals. There was also a brief demonstration of the Friesian horse which is often used in exhibitions because of its kind temperament. Headlining for the mid-day attraction was John Casey’s K-9 trained Frisbee dogs, an annual favorite.

The ever popular lead line class (ages eight and under) was featured in the Grand Prix ring this morning, and “Jumping Joe” Fargis was one of the celebrity judges. Some of our great riders today started their equestrian careers in this division. To promote a positive experience, all entries received a ribbon for their participation

The first day of the Hampton Classic has always focused on the local community. The owner and founder of Manhattan Mortgage, Melissa Cohn, has been a summer resident of the Hamptons for thirteen years. When asked why Manhattan Mortgage sponsors the event, Cohn reflected, “I am able to combine business, community, family and friends.”

Cohn is an avid rider and grew up riding on Martha’s Vineyard. She competed today in the Local Adult Amateur Hunter division piloting two mounts, Aviator and Bulgari. She finished with strong rounds over fences and a second place ribbon in the under saddle on Bulgari.

Inclement weather did not deter strong attendance for any of the events, including the $20,000 Nicolock Time Challenge. There was a perfect balance of horses, shopping, exhibitions and much more.

The Rings will start August 28, 2006 at 11:00 am, with the finals of the Long Island Show Series for Riders with Disabilities. These riders have been competing all year to qualify. Rain or shine it promises to be another action packed day.
