Hannah Selleck Wins at Capital Challenge Horse Show

Elizabeth Dickinson Wins PCHA Adult Horsemanship Medal Finals at Flintridge Autumn Classic

Upper Marlboro, MD – October 2, 2006 – Karen Healey Stables traveled from California to Maryland to show at the Capital Challenge Horse Show. September 30th to October 1st was the Monarch International Equitation Weekend, and riders from Karen Healey Stables proved they were up for the new competition.

Hannah Selleck of Thousand Oaks, CA, rode Kyle to the championship in the 16 Year Old Equitation division. The talented rider posted two second place ribbons over fences and a third in the under saddle class. “Hannah was great, and her horse went very well,” Healey commented. “I think she feels very comfortable.”

Many of Healey’s students used the Capital Challenge Horse Show as a warm-up for the equitation finals in the upcoming weeks. “It was a great warm-up for us. We don’t have a real indoor ring,” Healey explained. “Even at the Oaks, we only have a covered ring. So this is great for the girls and their horses to go inside before the Medal and Maclay.”

In addition to Selleck’s success, Healey had two riders place in the top ten of the Monarch International North American Equitation Championship (MINAEC). Veronica Tracy (16) of San Juan Capistrano, CA, rode Guns N’ Roses to sixth place in the event, and she was first and fifth in the 16 Year Old Equitation over fences classes. In the MINAEC, Tracy moved up ten places on the last day. “Veronica went early on Sunday in the class. I had her leave a stride out in one line, and I think it really helped her,” Healey affirmed.

Tina Dilandri (14) of La Jolla, CA, rode RSVP to seventh place in the MINAEC. In the 13 & 14 Year Old Equitation division, Dilandri was second over fences. Novona Gallegos of Santa Fe, NM, rode Articulate, owned by Don Stewart Jr. and Erin Stewart, to fourth place in the 13&14 Year Old under saddle, while Samantha Harrison was eighth on Fred Astaire. Harrison picked up second place in the Open Equitation 3’6” class.

Shelby Wakeman (15) of Westlake Village, CA, took over the ride on Articulate in the 15 Year Old Equitation to pick up fifth place over fences. Wakeman piloted San Francisco to fifth place ribbons in the other over fences class and the under saddle. Michelle Morris of La Cañada, CA, rode Eventual to first place over fences in the 15 Year Old division.

Alexandra Conforti, also of La Cañada, placed in every class of the 17 Year Old Equitation division. On The Graduate, she was fifth and eighth over fences and second under saddle.

“We were very competitive,” Healey mentioned. “Tina more than held her own, considering her age and that it’s her first time here. Everyone was quite good.”

While Healey was on the East Coast, assistant trainer Melissa Jones and grand prix rider/trainer Gabriella Salick took two students to the Flintridge Autumn Classic Horse Show on September 29-October 1. The PCHA Adult Horsemanship Medal Finals were held, and Elizabeth Dickinson of Los Angeles rode Rembrandt to the win. She moved up from third place in the first round. Fellow amateur rider Kristi Siam of Chatsworth, CA, finished fourth on Carmelo.

Dickinson did not settle for just one blue ribbon. She and Rembrandt rose to the top in the Flintridge Adult Equitation Challenge, while Siam was right behind her in second place. Dickinson piloted Here’s Johnny to the win in the CPHA Junior/Senior Hunter Seat Medal class and the 3’3” Warm-up class.

Karen Healey Stables will continue to show at the Capital Challenge Horse Show from October 2-8 before traveling to Harrisburg, PA, to compete at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show on October 12-21, 2006. Students on the West Coast will travel to the Foxfield Medal Finals and Jumping Derby on October 7-8
