Karen Healey Stables’ Rider Post Equitation Wins at Oaks Blenheim Spring Tournament I
Equestrian News Release
San Juan Capistrano, CA – April 3, 2006 – At the beautiful show grounds during the first week of the Oaks Blenheim Spring Tournament on March 29-April 1, 2006, the riders of Karen Healey Stables picked up blue ribbons in equitation and hunter classes.
One of the most decorated equitation riders of the show was Tiffani Weeda of San Juan Capistrano, CA. Weeda finished with blue ribbons in the CPHA Junior Medal and the WCE Junior/Amateur Medal class. A first place finish in the jumper phase of the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic also gave her the overall win in the class. Weeda was second in the Equitation 15-17 over fences class.
Weeda began riding with Karen Healey last year and purchased her equitation horse, Europa Eins, only three months ago. Europa Eins is Teddi Bates’ former Young Riders jumper horse and had never done equitation classes until last fall, when he and Hannah Selleck were successful in the USEF Talent Search West Coast Finals and the USEF/Pessoa Medal Finals.
“The horse has given Tiffani all of the confidence in the world,” Healey stated. “She had never really done the big medal classes, but she has really stepped up to the plate this year. She won classes in Indio and here at Oaks Blenheim on the big grass field. It’s an unbelievable combination.”
Veronica Tracy, another San Juan Capistrano resident, was the winner of the Equitation 15-17 over fences class. Tracy also finished first in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search class, which combines a jumper-style over fences course with a challenging under saddle phase.
Hannah Selleck, this year’s Shalanno Style of Riding Award winner at the Indio Desert Circuit, showed her riding style in the hunter division this week. She picked up the ride on Paris Sellon’s Back In the Game to capture the championship in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunters. The pair won three out of five classes for the tricolor.
Selleck, of Thousand Oaks, CA, left nothing to chance and won the reserve championship in the same division on Bella, owned by Descanso Farm. They were first, second, third, fourth, and fourth in the division.
Selleck, Healey, and Fred Bauer all traveled to the Tampa Bay Classic Horse Show in Tampa, FL, on March 22-26, 2006, to look for potential new horses. While there, Selleck was given a catch ride for the equitation classes on a sale horse from Don Stewart Jr. She went on to win the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search class and finish second overall in the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic against the best East Coast riders.
Lucy Davis and Macy Grey continued their winning ways this week as well. Riding for Carlye Byron-Nelson, Davis and Macy Grey were first, second, third, and fourth over fences in the Medium Pony Hunters. An additional fourth place finish under saddle gave them the reserve championship in the division.
Karen Healey Stables will show again this week at the Oaks Blenheim Spring Tournament II on April 5-9, 2006.
