Del Mar, CA – May 10, 2006 – It was another exciting and impressive week of competition for Karen Healey Stables at the Del Mar National Horse Show, held on May 2-7, 2006. The riders, under the tutelage of Karen Healey, swept ribbons in equitation classes and came home with top results in many different jumper classics.
A big winner this past week was Hannah Selleck of Thousand Oaks, CA. Selleck was given the Shallano Style of Riding Award as well as the Peppertree Style of Riding Award for Jumper Style. Other finalists for the award were Karen Healey students Michelle Morris on Eventual, Torie Immel, and Alexandra Conforti.
Selleck was the trailblazer on her own Kyle in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search class, in which riders from Karen Healey Stables placed first through fifth. Second place went to Kasey Ament, third to Torie Immel of Newport Beach, CA, Veronica Tracy of San Juan Capistrano, CA, was fourth, and Shelby Wakeman of Westlake, CA, was fifth.
Selleck also picked up sixth place in the $25,000 Del Mar National Horse Show Open Equitation Championship Finals and was fifth in the jumper phase and sixth overall in the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Equitation Classic jumper phase. On her new jumper Bauer, she finished sixth overall in the $14,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Show Jumping Championship.
Ament, who is also the assistant trainer/rider at Karen Healey Stables, was second in the Open Equitation Championship Finals over 50 other entries on Arwen Stables’ San Francisco. Eight of the top 25 riders in the Open Equitation Championship were riders from Karen Healey Stables.
Ament had a busy weekend, as she rode Roma-M to second place in the Modified Jumpers, as well as Hampton Court to fifth and Uniek to seventh place.
Fred Bauer had his first major win with his new mount, Roma-M, when he captured first place in the $5,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic Accumulator over 53 other entries.
In addition to the Talent Search class, other equitation classes were led by riders from Karen Healey Stables. In the WIHS Equitation Classic jumper phase, first place went to Alexandra Conforti of La Canada, CA, Immel was second, Michelle Morris, also of La Canada, was third, Selleck was fifth, and Carly Anthony of Redmond, WA, was sixth. These results translated into first place overall for Morris, third for Conforti, fourth for Immel, and sixth place for Selleck.
Tiffani Weeda of San Juan Capistrano, CA, was fourth in the Equitation 15-17 under saddle class and won the CPHA Junior Hunter Seat Medal, while Immel was second and Anthony was fourth. Michelle Morris also captured third place in the USEF Medal class, won the Equitation 15-17 under saddle class and won the ASPCA Maclay class, while Selleck finished second in the Maclay on Zorro.
Carly Anthony picked up the ride on Zorro to finish second to Torie Immel in the Equitation 17 and Under over fences class.
Adult rider Yvette Lang-Einczig of Malibu, CA, rode Jalapeno in their first show together at the Del Mar National Horse Show. They won the Foxfield Medal class and were second in the USEF Adult Medal class.
Kristi Siam of Chatsworth, CA, also picked up a blue ribbon in the PCHA Adult Medal class.
Karen Healey Stables will look to continue their amazing run of success at the Ranch and Coast Horse Show on May 9-14, 2006.
