Karen Healey Stables South Debuts at New Training Facility

Costa Mesa, CA - July 23, 2007 - Karen Healey Stables is pleased to announce the opening of their new venture, Karen Healey Stables South, in conjunction with EquiSports International and Hillary Ridland. Based at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Southern California, the business will host a full-care training program for students and their horses.

Karen Healey, one of the most prominent and successful trainers in the country, made the decision to expand her business due to demand. "I have customers in that area, and the commute for them to come up to my farm is horrible. We wanted to figure out a way to do something for them and other people who are interested in joining Karen Healey Stables," she explained. Healey's original farm is in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Healey is in the Orange County area more than ten times a year for horse shows, and she plans to travel for two days a week for training when her farm is not traveling to competitions. "I'm interested in serving my clients who are already in the area, as well as people who are seriously invested and have high-end goals for their equestrian career," she pointed out. "With Hillary, I'll be able to provide quality instruction and a follow-through on my program in that area."

"I'm very flattered that Karen approached me," Ridland remarked. "I'm excited to work with her in any form or fashion. I hope I can blend some of my jumper knowledge with her program, which could support what she already does so well. My husband Robert will also play a part in this endeavor."

Hillary Ridland has been a top trainer since 1981 and has ridden with such notable professionals as Buddy Brown, Leslie Howard, and Rodney Jenkins. She represented the U.S. Equestrian Team in international competition at Spruce Meadows and is married to Robert Ridland. Robert Ridland is a two-time member of the U. S. Olympic Team, current member of the USEF Board of Directors, FEI International Course Designer and twice USEF Course Designer of the Year. Robert Ridland runs the Blenheim EquiSports horse shows and organized the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas.

Karen Healey's training program has helped riders win the USET (now USEF) West Coast Show Jumping Talent Search Finals eight times. She trained Lauren Kay to victory and has had top ten riders in the ASPCA Maclay twelve times and USEF/AHSA Hunt Seat Medal Finals sixteen times over the past twenty years. Healey has had students win multiple different California medal finals. In addition, she has trained horses to AHSA (now USEF) Horse of the Year awards in junior hunters and jumpers, and she has had champions at all four national indoor final shows.

Healey has also been chairwoman of the AHSA Equitation Committee, and a member of the AHSA Junior Hunter Committee, Horsemen's Coalition Drug Advisory Committee, the National Hunter Committee and USEF Hunter Committee. From 1998-2004, she was a member of the USET Developing Rider and Developing Young Rider committees. Healey is the past and current Chairwoman of the Hunter Seat Committee/Task Force. She has been on the Board of Directors for the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation for ten years and was the driving force behind the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation Team Hunter Challenge at the 2005 Budweiser and 2007 Rolex FEI World Cup Finals.

As an active judge, she has held the card at the Devon Horse Show, Pony Medal Finals, USET East Talent Search Finals, New England Medal Finals and the WCHR Spectacular Hunter Classic of Palm Beach.
