Equestrian News Release
Over the Hill Farm at 122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival
Wellington, FL- December 6, 2005- The riders of Over the Hill Farm and trainer Bill Schaub had a very successful week at the 122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival in Wellington, Florida on November 30-December 4, 2005. They took home two championships and ribbons in multiple divisions, making it one of the most successful shows of the fall season.
In the Large Pony Hunters, Jennifer Waxman piloted Katie Hogan’s Hint of Blue for the first time. Despite only having schooled Hint of Blue a couple of times this past week, Waxman and the fancy grey pony won three out of four classes in the Large Pony Hunter division, which easily gave them the championship. Waxman, a highly successful pony rider, rode Hint of Blue for owner Katie Hogan of Tampa, Florida.
In the first round of the Village of Wellington Large Pony Hunter Classic, Waxman and Hint of Blue had an incredibly high average score of 90. They returned for the second round and scored an 86.5, which gave them a total of 176.5 and the win.
“I thought he was so much fun. You just keep galloping and he holds himself off. He has such a good front end that he can jump you out of anything,” Waxman said. “I just had a blast riding him.”
In their biggest win to date, What D’Ya Know and Lee Cesery came away with the tricolor in the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over division. Cesery and “Snickers” have been together for three years, and the adorable bay gelding lives at home with Cesery in Jacksonville, Florida. Cesery trains with Keith Alaimo while at home and meets trainer Bill Schaub of Over the Hill Farm at shows.
After her championship presentation, Cesery said jokingly, “Now I can retire!” She then explained, “I’ve ridden all my life. I took some time off to have my kids and then I started riding again, so this is my first major win. It’s a big deal and I’m really happy. It’s a real honor.”
Cesery mentioned that What D’Ya Know showed in the First Year Green division a few years ago and competed on the big field. She showed at the National Horse Show when it was at the Meadowlands, but this is her first big win at the National and the first time she has shown in the Internationale Arena. “It’s so totally different from anything that you do elsewhere.”
Cesery knew that her horse would be competitive at this year’s NHS. “His stride was nice and open, and it was a lot of fun. He’s like a big pony. You kick, let go of the reins, and go!” What D’Ya Know placed first and second over fences on the first day of competition and was second in the final jumping class. After a third place finish in the under saddle, the championship was sealed.
In the Medium Pony Hunters, Sophie Read of Lake Mary, Florida rode Kara Chad’s pony, Tristan’s Party Shoes. The pair was third and sixth over fences on Saturday and then finished with another impressive third place finish in the last over fences class on Sunday.
Schaefer Raposa got the ride on Lauren Hogan’s America in the Small Pony Hunter division. Raposa and the famous chestnut pony were consistently in the ribbons in every class. They garnered a fifth and third place over fences on the first day of competition and then returned for the second day to place sixth in the two remaining classes.
Another consistent performer was Gold Edition, who showed with his new owner, Ashley Kennedy. Kennedy has recently returned to the show ring after an absence and has found a wonderful new partner. Gold Edition posted two notable third place finishes in the over fences classes on the first day. He then strutted his way to a fantastic second place ribbon in the under saddle class.
In the Children’s Hunter division, Courtney Rodrigue and Role Model jumped to two fifth place ribbons in a competitive division with over 30 entries. Also competing at the National Horse Show were Caitlin Henry and Pinot Noir in the Children’s Jumper division.
