HITS announces its program cover artists for the upcoming winter circuits

SAUGERTIES, NY (January 5, 2009)--HITS is pleased to announce that the works of Mary Verrandeaux and Bruce Makinney have been selected as cover art for the 2009 HITS Ocala Winter Circuit and HITS Desert Circuit Official Horse Show Programs.

Verrandeaux will be the cover artist for the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit. The painting that will be portrayed on the cover is entitled 'Once and Again' and the image is an illustration of Jennifer Alfano of SBS Stables from Buffalo, New York. Verrandeaux captured the image at HITS Post Time Farm in Ocala in 2008.

"My goal with my paintings is simply to be an artist in demand. I love to create, to explore, I love the environment and nature and, in my own way, want to be able to share with others the way I see the world," said Verrandeaux.

Verrandeaux is a veteran to the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit as she was also the cover artist in 2004. "It's always a pleasure to work with Mary," said HITS' Art Director Leslie Phillips. "Her work is just amazing and it's wonderful to have such a fine piece of art on the front cover of the HITS Ocala Program."

Verrandeaux will have her fine equestrian art on display at the second-annual Equine Art Gala, presented by Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club on Thursday evening, February 12 during the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit.

This year the Art Gala will include a silent auction to benefit the Humane Society of Marion County. Items up for grabs to date include a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Barkitecture doghouse, a signed print of "The Fox" by 2008 HITS Saugerties Cover Artist Phyllis Frazier and jewelry by Design Works Custom Jewelry Studio .

The by-invitation-only event will be held at the exclusive Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club. For more information on the HITS Ocala Equine Art Gala and Silent Auction, please contact Lisa Engel via e-mail at Lisa@HitsShows.com.

Bruce Makinney's painting entitled 'World Class' has been chosen for the cover of the 2009 HITS Desert Circuit Official Horse Show Program.

Bruce Makinney is a self-taught artist living in Castle Rock, Colorado. According to Makinney, his inspiration comes from master wildlife painters Robert Bateman, John Seery-Lester and Terry Isaac.

For the last five years he has concentrated on painting equine and wildlife subjects. Materials have varied, but mostly he has been painting with oils, acrylics and pastels. All of his work is done in his home studio in Castle Rock, Colorado but he and his wife, Debi, travel all around Colorado, Wyoming and other areas to get ideas for subjects to paint.

Look for Makinney's work during the first-ever HITS Desert Circuit Equine Art Exhibition on the weekend of January 30-31. The second evening of this two-day event will coincide with the $50,000 Strongid® C 2X FEI World Cup Qualifier, presented by Adequan on Saturday evening.

"Saturday night will certainly be a fantastic evening," said HITS' Senior Vice President Tony Hitchcock, who is organizing the event. "Fine equestrian art mixed with the finest Grand Prix riders on the West Coast surely make up the ingredients for a wonderful night."

The programs are available onsite for free at the winter circuits and feature great articles and resources for places to go, eat, and see while showing in Ocala and Thermal.

HITS, Inc. is a special events management company primarily focused on producing hunter/jumper horse shows. Based in upstate New York in the village of Saugerties, HITS produced its first horse show circuit in Gainesville, Florida in 1982. Since that time, HITS has grown into a nationwide company with world-class hunter/jumper circuits in California, Florida, Arizona, New York and Virginia.
