HITS Saugerties finishes up successful spring shows

SAUGERTIES, NY (June 10, 2009) —The HITS Saugerties Spring Circuit is in the books and after three tremendous weeks of show jumping, exhibitors are already making their plans to return for the summer shows in Saugerties, New York.

Action will resume at HITS Saugerties with HITS-on-the-Hudson IV on Wednesday, July 15 followed by three consecutive weeks of shows, including the return of the USEF Junior Hunter National Championships – East Coast on July 27-29, between Weeks V and VI.

Also on the schedule for the summer shows are the $10,000 USHJA Hunter Derby, $5,000 Pony Commotion and a host of classes for High-Performance Riders, including the $125,000 Strongid C 2X Grand Prix, on Sunday August 2 during HITS-on-the-Hudson VI. Courses in the Grand Prix Ring that week will be built by International Course Designer Bernardo Cabral from Portugal, a newcomer to HITS-on-the-Hudson. Other Course Designers coming to the Hudson Valley this summer are Danny Foster and Olaf Petersen, Sr.

"Our clients are already talking about the summer," said trainer Monty Kelly. "Everyone at the horse show treats us extremely well. The in-gate crew even calls our cell phone if it looks like we are going to miss our turn in the order. We will be at HITS Saugerties all summer with about 30 horses."

“This was good show for us," said Heritage Farm's Andre Dignelli. "There have been some nice improvements here this year and we will be coming back for two weeks in the summer, including the [USEF] Jr. Hunter Finals.”

"I had a great three weeks here," said Grand Prix Rider Candice King. "There were lots of nice improvements. The Grand Prix Ring had nice jumps and decorations, and the footing was great. I am going to layover here in Saugerties for the next few weeks and make Saugerties my home base. After a couple of other horse shows, I will return for all three weeks in the summer."

Darragh Kerins takes the cake at HITS-on-the-Hudson

The crown jewel of the HITS Saugerties Spring Circuit took place this past Sunday when the $125,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix took center stage to conclude the three-week series of horse shows.

When the class was complete, it was Darragh Kerins riding Double H Farm's Night Train to the blue and the first-place check of more than $37,000. Kerins just edged out two-time Olympic Gold Medalist McLain Ward and Sagamore Farm's Phillipa, who finished in second place.

It was only fair for Ward to share the wealth after winning three out of the six Grand Prix events and collecting more than $50,000 in prize money aboard Sagamore Farm's Phillipa. Thanks to a fabulous run in Saugerties, Ward and Phillipa jumped into second place in the USGPL Standings with their strong showing at HITS Saugerties.

The top 30 horse-and-rider pairs in the USGPL Standings will compete for the top prize in the $100,000 USGPL Invitational Grand Prix held during the USGPL Finals at HITS Culpeper in late September. For the current standing, visit http://www.hitsshows.com/pdf/09_usgpl_riderrankings.pdf
