Wellington, FL - November 30, 2007 - On November 29, 2007, the Ladies and Gentlemen's Committees of the National Horse Show Association of America Ltd., assembled for a meeting and cocktails at the home of Betty Jane Henry at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. Henry, who is chairwoman of the Ladies Committee, has served on the Committee and on the NHS Board of Directors longer than any other member in the organization.
Orchestrated by Henry and Mason Phelps Jr., chairman of the board of the National Horse Show Association of America Ltd., the meeting addressed logistics pertaining to social functions and the responsibilities of committee members during the National Horse Show competition. The 124th National Horse Show and Family Festival will be held at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club from Dec. 5-9, 2007.
Henry spoke first, addressing issues pertaining to fundraising, and she also reviewed proper protocol for presenting awards and trophies at the horse show. Phelps discussed the different social functions that will take place and the role of committee members at these functions. He focused on hospitality, special events, evening socials and the many receptions scheduled throughout the week of the show.
Phelps commented, "These committees are an integral part of what makes the National Horse Show one of the oldest and longest-running equestrian competitions in the nation. Having been a member of these committees in the years that the show was held at Madison Square Garden, I understand the importance of the role they play, and the National Horse Show is very grateful for their contributions."
Guests who attended the National Horse Show Ladies and Gentlemen's Committee meeting include: Allyn Schiavone, Elizabeth Hedley, Jean "Kiki" Umla, Susan Hensley, Fran Steinwedell, Nancy Crosswell, Mary Lou Mele, Vanessa Symmons, Barbara Conners, Susan Bloomberg, Leslie Clarke, Carlene Blunt, Julie Tannehill, Gene Mische, Ron Neal, Mason Phelps, Joan Tranter, and Karen Lloyd.
