Reader-Friendly Guide Appeals to Horse Enthusiasts
Equestrian News Release
CAVE CREEK, Ariz., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Horses played a pivotal role in the building of America. More than 200 years later, they remain a subject of fascination and admiration in the nation's culture. Longtime horse breeder Marcy J. Miller seeks to inform and entertain horse enthusiasts with her new book, "Miller's Horse: Intriguing Horse Facts" (now available through AuthorHouse).
With her new book, Miller appeals to all types of horse fans from breeders to the armchair horseman who wants to turn his curiosity into knowledge. "'Miller's Horse' is intended for anyone who has worked with, owned or merely admired the horse. It will appeal to horse-crazy young readers as well as equine professionals," Miller says. "It is the type of book people will want to give to their equestrian friends - or to elderly aunts who 'once rode.'"
The book doesn't focus on one aspect of horses, such as anatomy or behavioral tendencies. Instead, it contains a beginner's dose of information on a vast breadth of topics. It begins with "need-to-know" vital statistics about the horse for veterinary purposes. The book also contains a section on dead horses, which is crucial for caretakers in the event of an emergency when the owner is away.
In her lighthearted, often humorous narrative, Miller writes brief sections on tack, horse-drawn conveyances, racing, proverbs about horses, origins of breeds, preparing to transport horses by trailer, historically significant trainers and horses in history.
Miller's unique illustrations provide visual stimulation for readers while visually appealing section breaks and formatting make the book easy to navigate. This reader-friendly format also makes it easy for busy readers to read the book at their own pace.
"It's the sort of book you pick up, open at the middle and read sections at random - a book that will follow you around the house so you can snatch five minutes here and there reading," Miller says.
Miller was born and raised in Scottsdale, Ariz. She holds a bachelor's degree in English literature and has completed graduate credits in liberal studies. She has spent her life working with horses. Miller has worked for the Scottsdale Police Department for 19 years. A lieutenant, she was the first female officer assigned full-time to mounted patrol. In search of the western community of her youth, Miller moved to Cave Creek, Ariz., in 2003. She has published various essays in law enforcement and horse-breeding publications. She also enjoys writing fiction. In addition to "Miller's Horse," she has written a novel titled "Crossroads" (also available through AuthorHouse).
