In her lighthearted, often humorous narrative, Miller writes brief sections on tack, horse-drawn conveyances, racing, proverbs about horses, origins of breeds, preparing to transport horses by trailer, historically significant trainers and horses in history.

Miller was born and raised in Scottsdale, Ariz. She holds a bachelor's degree in English literature and has completed graduate credits in liberal studies. She has spent her life working with horses. Miller has worked for the Scottsdale Police Department for 19 years. A lieutenant, she was the first female officer assigned full-time to mounted patrol. In search of the western community of her youth, Miller moved to Cave Creek, Ariz., in 2003. She has published various essays in law enforcement and horse-breeding publications.
