Horse News is media sponsor of the New Jersey HorseXpo

FLEMINGTON, N.J. - Horse News is again the media sponsor for the fourth annual New Jersey HorseXpo, May 2 and 3 at the Hunterdon County fairgrounds. There will be demonstrations on topics including driving, dentistry, emergency rescue, massage, unwanted horses, side saddle, a parade of breeds and an appearance by Alex, a horse that survived a barn fire and now helps human burn victims cope with their injuries. Pony rides will be available and the 4-H clubs are hosting a Kiddie Korral with activities for children. Horse News managing Editor, Lillian Shupe, who is also on the Xpo planning committee, is leader of the Centaurs 4-H Club. The club, with the help of Horse News is collecting riding helmets for Mongolian children who ride in the Nadaam festival horse races in July.

The club is asking local tack suppliers to donate helmets as well as local equestrians. Cash donations will also be accepted to help purchase helmets and to pay for shipping of the helmets to Mongolia. Ms. Shupe suggested the project to club members after being contacted at Horse News by a friend of a member of the Peace Corp. Helmets and/or checks (made payable to the club) can be mailed or dropped off to the attention of Lillian Shupe, at the Horse News office, 8 Minneakoning Road, Flemington N.J. 08822.

The club learned that the races take place in Mongolia each summer during a festival and takes place over the course of three days. Children ages 4 to 12 race at a full gallop on ponies for up to 15.5 miles. Very few have helmets and many don't even have saddles. The helmets can also be dropped off at the Kiddie Korral during the HorseXpo May 2 and 3.

The HorseXpo is open on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available. Vendor spaces are still available. Indoor booths for Chamber members are $300, $425 for non-members. Outdoor booths are $200 for Chamber members and $300 for non-members. There is also special pricing for non-profit organizations. There are sponsorships avail-able for almost every marketing budget. A private lesson clinic with Caroline Rider will also be held the day before the New Jersey HorseXpo.

On May 1, riders will learn to expand their relationship with their horse and develop horsemanship skills. Riders and horses of any level are welcome and specific problems can be ad-dressed. Each lesson last an hour or more. The fee is $115 per mounted participant and $25 for auditors.

See riderhorsemanship.com for more information about the clinician. To register, e-mail mmlmom@aol.com. Rider will be one of several clinicians and demonstrators at the HorseXpo.
