The International Gold Cup Prepares for Fierce Rivalry

And That’s Just the Tailgate Competition

THE PLAINS, VA—On Saturday, October 15 as horses race competitively over a spectacular race course, the competition surrounding the field is equally interesting. Candelabras, fine china and exquisite cuisine are all part of the Virginia steeplechase tradition as the 68th International Gold Cup returns to the Great Meadow Events Center in The Plains, Virginia. As one of the largest steeplechase meets in the nation, the International Gold Cup brings together riders, trainers, horses and attendees from around the world.

This event also includes a tailgate competition. Gold Cup is pleased to announce that Michael Birchenall, Times Community Newspapers, Ann Limpert, Washingtonian magazine and Shawn Sell, USA Today will be judging the competition. The judges will critique registered tailgates at the race and will award two roundtrip airline tickets on American Airlines to the winner.

The International Gold Cup is as much a social outing as it is a horse race, many corporations and individuals purchase tents and rail spots to host lavish parties that include extensive tailgate fare. All within the heart of Virginia horse country, 45 minutes west of Washington, DC in a spectacular setting with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Regular attendees include Fortune 500 executives who reside in the surrounding area, Washington politicians, equestrians, television personalities, and movie stars (local resident and actor Robert Duvall often presents the International Gold Cup trophy).

General admission car passes are $60 the week of the race. A car pass admits one vehicle and six occupants. For ticket information contact the Virginia Gold Cup Association at 540-347-2612 or order online at http://www.vagoldcup.com.

For ticket outlet information, phone 1-800-69-RACES or visit the web at http://www.vagoldcup.com.
