Title town! Hugh Dollard looks to defend his circuit championship this weekend at HITS Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, NY (June 14, 2008)--Hugh Dollard, of Greenwich, Connecticut, is not ready to give up his crown. Dollard is 13 and was the 2007 Grand Champion of the Modified Children's Hunter Division at HITS-on-the-Hudson and is back in Saugerties prepared to defend his title.

"I'm glad to be back," said Dollard. "I was here the first week and was Reserve Champion but missed last week, so I have some catching up to do."

"Everybody is so nice here," he continued. "Even though we are all competing against each other, no one gets jealous over who has a better horse or who rode a little bit better that day. It's just a nice and friendly horse show."

Dollard just completed seventh grade at the Harvey School in Katonah, New York and trains under Cynthia Williams, who has served as a great mentor for her up-and-coming rider. "I have learned about how to be a better rider and a better person from Cynthia," said Dollard. "She always makes sure that I think of the horse first. One thing, in particular, is that she told me to make sure the horse is cool on a hot day before I am cool."

"Cynthia teaches me a lot about manners, too," added Dollard. "Thanks to her, I know exactly what to do when I am on a horse."

"He's a fantastic student," said Williams. "I think he is such a good learner because he excels at other sports, including baseball and golf."

Dollard, who has been riding for a little more than three years, has his sights set on qualifying for the Marshall & Sterling League Finals in September. "A lot of my students are aiming towards that," said Williams. "My students are very goal orientated and the Marshall & Sterling League Finals is a great event that we can really focus on qualifying for."

Williams, who is a regular at HITS Saugerties in both the spring and the summer, has 10 horses competing this week. "I've been very happy here the last three weeks," said Williams. "My customers are eager to come back in July for the summer series of horse shows."

Dollard is one of many riders looking to take home a Spring Circuit Award when HITS Saugerties finishes three exciting weeks of show jumping at its spacious facility in beautiful upstate New York this weekend. The winners of the Spring Circuit Awards will be announced prior to the $50,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix on Sunday, during the Parade of Champions. HITS, Inc. is a special events management company primarily focused on producing hunter/jumper horse shows. Based in upstate New York in the village of Saugerties, HITS produced its first horse show circuit in Gainesville, Florida in 1982. Since that time, HITS has grown into a nationwide company with world-class hunter/jumper circuits in California, Florida, Arizona, New York and Virginia.
