Fourth Annual Intercontinental Sport Horse Auction Hugely Successful

Wellington, FL – February 26, 2007 – More than 300 people brought out their checkbooks for the fourth annual Intercontinental Sport Horse Auction at The Ridge, hosted by Nona Garson and George D’Ambrosio.

Tim Jennings of Professional Auctioneering Services called the auction and entertained the crowd throughout the process of selling more than 30 horses. Horsemen from all disciplines and corners of the world turned out to see the stunning group of handpicked horses and to try their hand at bidding.

Although the night was cool, the bidding was hot and many buyers made successful purchases of both young horses and seasoned, show-ring ready mounts. Some horses were shown under saddle and all were presented in the tent to the audience. The biggest purchase of the night was for $100,000 for a 4-year-old dark bay gelding named Sarotti, who Garson said was one of the best hunter prospects she had ever laid eyes on. A gray mare named Siris was not far behind at $95,000.

“We could not be happier with how the auction turned out,” Garson commented. “Our goal was to offer an elite selection of horses to fit all abilities, disciplines and price ranges, and I think we fulfilled that goal. We’ve heard rave reviews from attendees, and it’s always a pleasure to see someone paired with a quality horse.”

Styled after the more popular European auctions, Garson is dispelling the notion that American auctions are clearing houses for unwanted horses. Through a careful process that ensures the ability and quality of each horse, as well as their soundness and health, the Intercontinental Sport Horse Auction is equal to any other auction in the world. Garson noted that The Ridge will host a fifth auction next year.

However, the evening was as much for socialization as it was for horse shopping, and there was an open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres and great conversation among tables. Taylor Harris Insurance Services Inc. was on site to assist with the protection of new purchases, as well as a representative from BD Horse Transportation if customers needed to make equine travel arrangements.

Guests included: Jaylaan Llewellyn, Nona Garson, Tom Cunningham, George D’Ambrosio, Steve Williams, GiGi Stetler, Janet and Dana Rizzo, Geoff Butler, Caryn Picker, Bertrand de Soultrait, Jenny Oz Leroy, Michael Meller, Todd Minikus, Caren Hunter, Elizabeth Hedley, Karin Reid-Offield, Eduardo Braun, Sue and Terry Williams, and Pablo Gamboa.
