Intercontinental Auction Horses Readied for Sale with Prepurchase Exams and X-rays

Wellington, FL – February 16, 2007 – With about a week remaining before the fourth annual Intercontinental Sport Horse Auction, Nona Garson and The Ridge are busy preparing the 30 horses that will be offered at auction on February 23, 2007.

Modeled after popular European auctions, Garson has carefully and thoughtfully chosen each horse. The prospects vary in age, ability, disciplines and price so that there is something available for all interested buyers. Each horse must have the proper medical records and certificates to be accepted into the auction to ensure the health of every animal. In addition, Garson has each horse undergo a complete prepurchase veterinary exam, which includes x-rays and flexion tests, many of which are happening this week.

“That’s what, ultimately, is very special about this auction. A person can go see a horse and they don’t have to spend $1,500 or $2,000 to vet the horse – it’s already been done. If the horses don’t meet the criteria, they don’t come,” Garson commented.

Garson, an Olympic veteran, employs Dr. Brendan Furlong, one of the top veterinarians in the country, as the chief veterinarian for the auction. All exams are done electronically so anyone around the world can request the results or x-rays of a horse and have them in minutes.

“What we have done is to try to have a very open format where the results of the exams and the x-rays are all available in a very user-friendly manner to view,” Furlong explained. “We can get the information electronically to anyone, anywhere in the world. I’ve also made myself very available in person or by cell phone to discuss any questions or concerns buyers have.”

The auction is open to the public but those interested in bidding or buying must register. Interested parties can preview horses at a viewing reception on Wednesday, February 21.
