Jack Hardin Towell Jr. triumphs twice in two weeks in Jumpers at Aiken Fall Festival Horse Show

Aiken, SC - Sunday, September 21, 2008 - Show jumping's Jack Hardin Towell Jr. of Finally Farm in Camden, SC captured the Aiken Fall Festivalís Equus Events' $10,000 Jumper Classic the first weekend (September 13) while in the saddle on Cotopaxi 2. He returned to take on, and beat, the top riders the following week during the $25,000 Aiken Grand Prix on Copado on September 21 at the Highfields Center in Aiken, SC. Towell and Copado, owned by Ernie and Betty Oare, won the $25,000 Grand Prix at the Atlanta Spring Challenge Series in May.

A strong contingent of entries contested the first-round course that featured 13 jumps and 16 jumping efforts. Only five horses went clear during the round. Towell, a 20 year old full time college student who rides with his father Jack and sister Liza Towell-Boyd, qualified both of his mounts for the jump-off - Cotopaxi 2 and Copado. Michael Tokaruk qualified two of his three rides, including his Holsteiner gelding Lord Byron, as well as Roger Rabbit, and Casey Hodges went clean on Wendy Arndt-Hodges' Audio K. There was a good field of horses in the Grand Prix and Richard Jeffries is a world-renowned course designer.

Towell and Copado and Tokaruk and Lord Byron were the only ones to go double clear, with Towell and Copado stopping the timer at 34.451 seconds over the jump-off course that featured six jumps and seven jumping efforts.

It was Towell's sixth Grand Prix victory. Towell has qualified for the year-end final competitions and will be competing at the Open Jumper division at the prestigious Washington International Horse Show and the Pennsylvania National Horse Show.

His sister Elizabeth Towell Boyd and their top junior rider Sarah Ward of Atlanta, GA will also be competing along with a slew of students from Charlotte, NC and Kershaw, SC etc. at all the Indoors beginning with Capital Challenge Horse Show beginning Saturday, Sept. 27th, the Washington International Horse Show, The Pennsylvania National Horse Show, and the Syracuse National Horse Show (the old National Horse Show that took place at Madison Square Garden for years).
